Young game time decision - ESPN

Unless he just wakes up Saturday and it's sore or he doesn't have juice on it in warmups.

quote:

"Bryce has been practicing, and all week, he's been saying that he could play," Saban told ESPN on Thursday. "But that's going to be a medical decision. We've still got some time, and I want to talk more to Bryce. He's the only one who knows how he feels because it's going to be a pain-tolerance thing.

"He's a tough kid and great competitor. We'll see where he is on game day."

quote:

Saban said the plan from Alabama's medical staff was for Young not to throw on Thursday and instead rest his shoulder.

"There was no reason for him to throw a lot this week, because if he does, it's not going to get better. It's just going to aggravate it," Saban said. "Our doctors are saying that if you hold off as much as you can, then that's the best chance that he's got."

quote:

"There's nothing wrong with his rotator cuff or anything like that, nothing that's going to keep him out long term," Saban said. "We hope we get him back this week, but it's still too early to make that call."

quote:

"Bryce has done everything else, gotten all the reads, done the team runs," Saban said. "We just haven't allowed him to throw it very much."

There was a practice video earlier this week of him flinging long passes downfield with wild abandon.

*edit* but that video was a month old

I get the fear of aggravating it, but there is another side too. Saturday was the first time Bryce and the young WRs really seemed in sync down the field. Throw in JoJo and perhaps Harrell and another week of them getting more comfortable and confident in what they are doing would be pretty huge.

If Bryce isn't 100%, not worth it. But not playing him has more negatives than just "what if things go bad with Milroe" IMHO. You lose an opportunity to build on the last 2 weeks.

No there wasn’t. From Saban’s comments on the radio show I felt like they want to rest him this week if they can. The plan may be to see if Jalen can get us a win and if it looks like he can’t, shoot Bryce up and let’s roll. That’s just me trying to read between the lines though, just like everyone else.

AJ said on Twitter that he had the same injury at Bama twice and didn’t miss any time. They just shot his shoulder up before the game and played on.

It seems like if they wanted to rest him this week, he wouldn't have practiced. Since it's just a pain tolerance thing and he wants to play, let him.

I think Bryce sits. Milroe showed enough that the offense can score with him on the field.

Rest up and get ready for UT

Bryce is playing. he might be on pitch count... If Bama get up to 28-0 by half time... They sit his arse down, and let milroe take over.

If Bryce not 100% then don't play him at all shoot let him sit out this week.

Milroe or Ty still can get the job done.

We don't need to overthink it because Texas A&M isn't good at all.

Bryce and the receivers need more game time reps before the another road game in Knoxville.

Your reply pissed me off so I went back to find the video. I found it and realized it was a month old. Not sure how I didn't realize that when I saw it. I thought Michael Casagrande was trying to get fired by posting it.

I don't think he plays unless Bama is playing awful.

Milroe going to get the start and some valuable experience for next year. Bama still rolls.

Regardless of how I or any other fan might prefer to handle things, this certainly isn’t how Saban prepares or thinks and we’ve seen it for 15 years. If Bryce can play and there’s nothing he can do that will make his injury worse, he’s going to play.

if this is a regular injury does it make sense to have off season surgery to fix it? Or is this an unfixable type injury

It’s a rest type of injury.

I actually think if Bryce is 80% (provided it's just about strength and can't be reaggravated) it's worth it because having some synergy leading into the UT game is very important. Regardless of the fact that our defense has played well I can't see any scenario where we don't have to score a lot of points in that one.

Yea, we've seen this before. Not sure why anyone is expecting a basically healthy Bryce to sit "just in case".

Not the way the head coach does or had ever operated in games vs conference foes.

I sprained my AC joint this summer. It hurts and it took about 2 weeks to stop hurting. However, I'm not star D1 athlete with some of the best medical staff in the country taking care of me. Based off personal experience I think the A&M will come down to pain tolerance and barring any aggravation in that game (if he plays) he'll be 100% by Tennessee.

If we're about to lose, Young plays. Question is, does the staff wait until the game is out of reach. This game is MUCH closer than people think without Young.
