That was the type of loss that changes a program 1 way or another

We've had the "Never Again" type stuff in an offseasons before, but we've never ended a year being manhandled and embarrassed like this.
This offseason is either 7 months of pure, visceral, 2008 level anger or guys have tuned out, the process is slowly unraveling and it is truly the beginning of the end.
Honestly don't know which way it goes. Even if things start unraveling it won't necessarily show up in 2019, but the signs will continue to fester.
Only time will tell.

We gifted them a pick TD and pissed away 25 points on four drives where we reached 1st and goal but only scored 3 points total. 7 + 25 = 32. We lost by 28. And we threw a pick in the red zone on another drive. We could've (should've) won that game.
I was very disappointed in our defensive plan and calls. Venables did a great job with the variety of disguised blitzes. We were very vanilla, rushing 3 most of the time and showing our blitzes when we did call them. We made it easy for Clemson's offense. Our goal-to-go offensive play calling was very bad.
This loss was not like the final score. And it falls much more on a poor job of in-game coaching than on the players or anything else, imo.

You're actually pretty right on.
This upcoming season is the first one i'm becoming genuinely excited about since maybe kiffin's first year.
2014 was probably the last season where there was alot of mystery surrounding alabama.
There's now a whole lotta mystery heading into 19.

Dont expect everyone to agree, but that's cool.

I happened to agree. I can see this being something that propels us forward or signals the beginning of the end because it shatters the narrative of Alabama Football.
As you said, this is such new territory. Last night was so emasculating that it could easily go in either direction.

I have nothing other than my eyes to back up the following statement but I feel as though “pass first” teams become soft across the board. We have had moments of physicality but overall I’ve felt our Oline specifically were soft as a baby’s arse all year ... entire team is soft for Bama standards

I think you all are jumping the gun. The recruiting is consistently too good for us to fall. The issue is a lack of maturation on the defensive coaching staff, the defensive personnel is immature, and Tua has to do some maturing too. But, the tools are there to dominate.

Anyone else notice in the oklahoma game that when a player messed up and saban yelled at them, they just walked right past him and ignored him? I think this group was too stuck on themselves to be coachable.

Agree with all of the above. Last night had a different feel to it, as if we were watching the end of an era. Now that could be a good thing and we could rise from the ashes like a Phoenix or we could let it destroy the dynasty. Only time will tell.

You're right though.
Understandably, complacency and a measure of yawning has set in with this fanbase, it just has. We watch these games now almost clinically. We dissect how they're won instead of hoping they're won.
This wasn't just a loss. This was a wholesale collapse. This was 2009 florida except much much worse.
Alabama buckled under the pressure of being alabama.

Unless he stops them, they've always done that.
My guess is they're told to keep walking.

I agree Phil. It felt like for the first time in 10 years the spirit and mental toughness had left the team. It was very sad to watch and very humbling.

Even Bama can't overcome inexperience.

Jet lag and layover is a bitch. For that, you are a champ.
For your hot take post, not so much.

Im actually not that down today. I would have been down if we had lost by 1 though. Getting completely smashed, but at the same time having a great coach like Saban with lot of young talent and the #1 recruiting class has me a lot to look forward too. But there will need to be some serious changes. I think this beat down will propel Saban forward to making dynamic changes and the players to get grounded to work hard during the offseason. If we were going to lose this is the best way it could happen to get us going for next year.
Already excited for 2019!
At least we are playing for National Championships and not a team like Arizona St, L8U, Purdue etc.

Manhandled no, embarrassed yes.
Bama gave them 14 points. The pick six and the play where Smith was injured and couldn't make the tackle.
Bama left about 28 points on the field. Clemson only forced 2 punts, they didn't slow down Bama's offense. Bama did that themselves.
Defense just couldn't get off the field on 3rd and long.
Will be nice not to be the top dog next year. A motivated Bama team is always hard to stop. That is what you will have in 19, a motivated Bama team.

You're right we weren't manhandled. The boxscore doesn't reflect that. What it reflects is an average offensive coordinator who had checked out and who's averageness was hidden all season by an an abundance of talent.
When mike locksley won the broyles award i actually chuckled.

Bama is in a bit of trouble on the defensive side of the ball going into 2019. #28 looks like he might be able to handle a spot going forward and #2 as well. #21 showed nothing but hopefully one of the younger guys can take his spot. Diggs and Smith are just a bit better than average but in now way good so others need to take their spots as well. ILB is a collection of average play at best. 30 and 32 are the worst two ILB's Nick has had in years. They have a lot of hype but their play is average to below. The DL is really a problem and it is unclear who will be the answer. #99 is average. Unless Nick is able to really upgrade his defense then 2019 will find Bama having to score 35 to win games again which could happen. It will be a long long wait until Duke.
