Manhandled is the right word for what happened in the red zone. Bama got away from Bama football this year. This dynasty was built on toughness, running the football, and smothering defense, not a pass happy offense that just outscores other teams

This was the first game I've ever seen where a team lost by 30 and I felt like they could have easily won the game. If the game is replayed, how many of these things do you think happen again?

A QB throws a pick 6 straight to the other team as soon as the game starts
A DB gets hurt and gives up a free 74 yard TD
Either team is 10/15 on third down
One team moves the ball with ease pretty much the entire game but for whatever reason can't put it into the end zone.

We could have easily won this game, even without our DB's covering anyone all night.

Bama is in a bit of trouble on the defensive side of the ball going into 2019.

A quality coordinator can overcome alot of problems. Enter pete golding. He ran a really good defense at UT san Antonio and i believe that'sreally why he was hired. After this class is signed, tosh probably gets demoted or he simply moves on.

I agree and I am honestly ok with either outcome. If it's over then it's been real and I look forward to telling my grandchildren about coach Saban like I heard about coach Bryant when I was a kid. We will still contend for titles as long as we don't Tennessee up the coaching search when he inevitably retires. He won't continue coaching for less than championship type seasons.

I don't think it's over.

The bad part is that we probably won't know for sure until the SECCG in 2019 thanks to the pathetic schedule.

Our revolving coordinator door is biggest problem, IMO. Maybe this point needs it's own thread but this senior class has had four offensive and three defensive coordinators. Although they're all good at what they do, it breaks continuity. In comparison, Venables has been at Clemson 9 years, IIRC.

Hiring new coordinators almost every year also increases the chances of hiring someone who isn't up to par for the job, and it looks like neither coordinator this year was a good hire except for recruiting purposes only

This was one of the more undisciplined teams Saban has had. Lots of mental mistakes, blown assignments and really bad penalties. It all came out last night and I don't expect that to roll over next year. I don't predict perfection but we just saw the perfect storm of bad football.

I think the offense will carry us again next year and the defense will need an overhaul. We need some fresh talent and we need some guys to be more mature.

You guys are acting like I said it's all over. I didn't.

I do think it's an inflection point for the program.

His first season was 2012. Kevin Steele was fired after the 2012 Orange Bowl debacle against West Virginia.

I think you all are jumping the gun. The recruiting is consistently too good for us to fall. The issue is a lack of maturation on the defensive coaching staff, the defensive personnel is immature, and Tua has to do some maturing too. But, the tools are there to dominate.

Yep.

Not me. I'd rather have a close loss. I don't mind losing but we looked utterly incompetent out there.

And he was the DC at OU for years before that. Looks like the guy has no desire to be a HC.

Simply amazing the lack of turnover Dabo has had to deal with. It's just not losing coordinators that hurts us. Those coordinators usually take other assistants/analysts. That also takes place during preparation for the playoff, which brings another whole bag of issues.

You didn't say that at all and you're right, it is an inflection point.

This beating represents more than just a loss and anyone who doesn't recognize that is choking on sand.

When i bring it up to my clemson fans they retort..."the coaches love Dabo...they love clemson and their quality of life is such that they dont feel the need to go somewhere else" maybe true. Hard to pass up 2.5 million to just work one side of the ball

Bama is not going anywhere as long as Saban is here and we have the talent like we have . These #1 classes aren’t just going away. Next year might be down defensively but offense will be lights out again. We have enough talent to be in the hunt for the next few years. Some of you are overreacting. Hell we beat them by 18 last year, didn’t seem to faze them?

This run hasn't been about just having talent. That's a big piece, but our talent behaved and operated differently than other teams Top 5 talent.

Nope, they had a bunch of senior defensive leaders say fvck this and come back and finish the job.

That was my point - we'll see if we have guys lead in a similar way.
