We need to do something because I’m tired of that network demonizing us. It’s gotten so blatant that I think that they’re trying to provoke our fans with some of their rhetoric. Byrne and the BOT need to take a stand. I did notice that after the South Carolina game this last football season that we never got Tessitore and Palmer announcing one of our games. Was that a coincidence ? They were absolutely terrible that day and I believe that ESPN had them call that game in anticipation of an upset.

I dont disagree but a majority is Oats philosophy. He's more concerned about pushing tempo which explains the lack of defensive diversity or adjustments.

Due to the ball pressure allowing the drive, his defenses require the team to have long, athletic bigs to rim protect and rebound. We currently dont have enough of that and just wont this season it seems.

During football, i.made the suggestion that Byrne should announce the school is going to evaluate going independent which would open our TV rights to other networks. He doesnt even have to explain why.

The first call he'd get would be from ESPN looking to prevent that. We pull a large viewership for them.

Man listening to Oats, he almost sounds like he is about to cry.

Because he knew about halfway through the OOC schedule that the SEC crown was a realistic goal and he spoke about it and how important it was prior to the Vandy game. He knows tonight isn’t a game we could afford to lose, especially after losing to Vandy. We went from in the mix to having to beat out Vandy by 3 games from here on out…which is highly unlikely

Hodgson and Henry were massive losses.

Hodgson brought that Dawg mentality and toughness that our teams haven’t had since he left.

Henry brought the defensive X’s and O’s

It comes down to this for starters..
The basketball IQ on this team is low. Stupid fouls, missing free throws, not boxing out of free throws.

They aren't big or strong, so they get pushed around without Sherrel in there. They just did everything wrong at a time when they could have taken the lead. The free throws are just killer. The not boxing out on a free throw, killer. Texas wanted it more than we did.

Stupid fouls

Agreed, mostly bball IQ. Can be laziness and toughness as well.

missing free throws

I’d argue this is more composure and skill than bball IQ. Not really a decision to be made at the line…just make it. But I get your point on not being good at the fundamentals.

quote:

not boxing out of free throws

Definitely fundamentals, but I’d argue again it isn’t a bball IQ thing (maybe positioning is a bit, but I’d argue more toughness and effort than bball IQ).

What a terrible loss when we had so many opportunities to get over the hump. Pitiful

Just got home from game.. this team has a lot of weaknesses.. it’s more obvious in person.

Mallett is incredibly slow, trails on defense consistently.. really brings nothing to the table against athletic teams.

Williamson doesn’t possess the skill set to play at this level.

Jemison will be fine.. but he’s obviously a freshman. Allen is going to be a fantastic player.. but he’s a freshman too and the game gets away from him at times.

Sherrell doesn’t look a 100%… but even when he is he’s not physically strong. Bol is weak..

Not complaint with Holloway.. he’s just not physically very big..Philon is a stud but he’s going to have to do more and play better defensively.

In my opinion.. sweet 16 is the ceiling for this squad. I hope I’m wrong

I honestly can't believe we lost this game. Didn't watch because I was with family, just saw the score. Honestly didn't cross my mind that we might lose this one.

Nate Oats to reporters:
“We need some leadership to step up. Guys who are tired of losing. ... It's not a talent problem. ... To me it seems we don't have any bad guys. They like each other, but they don't all respect their teammates enough to give a winning effort.”

Like I said, Deboer and Oats have some things in common.

Where would we ever find another coach to say….

“Guys, forget an inside game, don’t rebound, don’t play defense, don’t focus on free throws, let’s just run around like morons and fire up a bunch of 3’s! Theres no such thing as a bad shot!!”

A direct quote from Nate over the years "We’ve told our group from Day 1, us making shots should only determine the margin of victory, not whether we win or lose. Our defense needs to be good enough to carry us even when we’re not making shots."

Its ok. A lot of idiots who don't know basketball think Oats' philosophy is just jack up 3's. He's preached defense and rebounding as keys to winning since day 1 while keying on high reward shots, 3 pointers, and high percentage shots, layups, over being inefficient with a bunch of mid-range looks. Hope that helps.

I saw again and again on free throws us getting outmuscled and out efforted on positioning. A lot of rebpunding is just plain want to.

First comment on the game but I was multi tasking and watched the game on mute. UT's ability to get the O rebounds cost of the game. That goes back to what some of you have said about the lack of boxing out and being out hustled. Isnt this something we have said a while with Oat's teams. Poor FT shooting and way too many turnovers from previous teams. This team seems to shoot fT's better and the TO's as a whole have been much better.

Williamson shot 2 three point shots in a few minute window and they were not close. Oats was not waving his arms in frustration on the sidelines so this must be a shot he approves of from him. I know Sherril has the green light on those shots.

Edit: only 7 turnovers with which is great but 5 from Philon. Missed 8-9 FT's

This team seems like it might have some locker room issues right now.

Generally speaking we’ve had either a turnover issue, a FT issue, or a toughness issue. I swear we didn’t see like we were giving it 100% last night. Guys seemed out of it. Whatever it is, I hope losing to that mid team motivates them.
