Not sure what the intended result was, but I would bet a large sum of $ that it wasn’t an off the cuff comment. It was calculated. Nick is always playing 4D Chess while most are playing checkers.

I hope he doesn't walk it back.
Double down Nick.....tell him we'll settle it October 8th.
See you in Title Town

I haven’t listened to finebaum in a long long time. But I’m gonna tune in today. He’ll definitely throw mineral spirits on the fire.

I’m fine with what Nick said, but I hope he has his own house in order. This is the kind of thing which causes the gloves to come off.

This felt like an incredibly benign statement that Fisher blew up over.

There are 3 active discussions about this in the pinned Football Tidings and FB Recruiting & Roster Mgmt threads as well as the NIL thread. Some recruits that want to commit to Bama have asked for NIL deals that match what A&M and others have offered them. It appears that's what got him riled up.

Saban just went on a radio show and apologized for singling anyone out. Said his comments were about the overall system being broken and the problem of collectives.
Funny note that he basically said "you know I never said anyone broke the rules or broke the law, but for some reason they took it that way."
I wonder why they took it that way??? Perhaps some freudian slip action going on....

Went exactly like anybody who knows Saban knew it would go. He slipped up last night naming names, plain and simple. He doesn't want some summer long back and forth about this stuff. He's gonna have to deal with it for the next 3-4 weeks, then media days then the week of the game, and thats on him. But he was gonna do his best to avoid it for the rest of the empty time inbetween.

Agreed. Saban made a mistake.
Also, Jimbo is an f’ing moron. F him. And I’ve hated A&M since their first visit to Tuscaloosa. Should be fun in October.

I’m not so sure.
Sometimes in the past Saban has said something that really grabbed headlines just to get the team’s attention. I wonder if he’s trying to do that now with college football? This isn’t the first time he’s said something like this but this is by far the most coverage it’s gotten because he named names.
People are trying their best to troll about this but the underlying truth of what he said is there in plain sight. Not just about A&M but college sports as a whole. If the best to ever do it is saying it, someone should probably be doing something about it.
That being said, he definitely opened himself up for criticism, which he said he understood in the interview today, but he just doesn’t care about as much anymore.

Top two headlines on ESPN right now.
Jimbo rips Saban: Some people think they’re God
Saban: NIL application ‘completely out of control’
Saban wins the headline battle once again.

Nah, he can say whatever he pleases. His track record of always being right speaks for itself.

Funny though Jimbo is denying but his recruits are not.
Evan Stewart 5 star WR 2022 class
Has never played a down yet in college but got paid NIL already. At least he is owning up to it unlike Jimbo his coach.

Saban doesn’t want to do the NIL recruiting, he’s trying to get it changed through the media since other things haven’t worked. The man is a master recruiter but this is messing up the bread and the butter.

Saban last night at the event was in front of some of the biggest businesses in the state for the World Games as they are all sponsors. His message was more to them that is time to pony up.
He was also hanging with Broadway Joe as well last night.

He’s not wrong. NIL is ruining college athletics. It’s basically the NFL without the draft and salary cap.
