Thank goodness. We don’t lost our bye week or UGA prep time

People look at a weather map and act like it's going to be something other than a potentially heavy rain in Oxford.
Newsflash... football has been played in the rain before.

but its 2020, where we lose our minds over things that we generally wouldn't lose our minds over.

as long as there isn't any lightening.

Newsflash football is played in snow before but I do not see any of our home away series with Big 10 teams over the next decade being scheduled in November.

Plus I have not seen anyone say they think the game should be canceled. Just people hoping to find a solution for it to be played because no one has a real clue what the storm may or may not due. Unless you are a hurricane expert.

Hurricane experts do exist. And the experts are forecasting a rapidly weakening tropical depression (not a hurricane or even a tropical storm) moving through northern MS this Saturday evening. #rainy/breezy

Maybe that poster is as he seemed to have valued knowledge.
BTW was there ever forcasted a hurricane to go through northern MS? I thought it was only suppose to be heavy rain and winds around 15-20mph. Never saw anything else except maybe a few tornadoes somewhere in the state.

I mean you don’t have to be an expert to be able to read what the experts say and therefore understand what to expect.

Nope.

That's been the worst-case forecast all week. It'll essentially be like a typical front moving through.

The same as what they are expecting here on Sunday as whatever is left moves through.
Time for Harris to have a big game I think if conditions are wet.

I believe MS is only in a tropical storm watch now for the most part.

I don't know why they didn't just move it to Tuscaloosa, as LSU vs Missouri was moved.

Never mind. That's a horrible idea. Which is why I edited this post hoping no one read the original

The Later the Better: Why the SEC Pushed Alabama at Ole Miss Kickoff Back Due to Hurricane Delta (SI)
Saturday evening forecast for Oxford, MS: Intermittent rain and westerly 6 mph wind.
quote:
As Hurricane Delta began to pound the Golf Coast nearly a day before landfall, the SEC announced that Saturday's kickoff time for Alabama at Ole Miss has been pushed back from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
On face value, the SEC's Thursday announcement didn't make much sense. Most forecasts showed that the heart of the storm was expected to be so close to Oxford, Miss., during the game that it could could be counted in the attendance at Vaught–Hemingway Stadium at Hollingsworth Field.
It's because the worst part of the storm is expected to be on the front end, or as the SEC said in its release: "The change in start time was made to provide a forecast for better game conditions." ...

But here's my take on it: everything points to a mildly sloppy game in the rain. If that's the case, so be it. But forecasts have been wrong before. And also, while playing in the rain is something that happens from time to time, it also increases the chance of injury. While nobody is suggesting moving a game due to a rain shower, the SEC had the opportunity to move this game to a time slot that was safer for all involved and would have probably been the only or one of the only college games on TV, meaning more potential viewers. In the interest of the safety of the players and fans, the decision should have been made earlier to just move it to Friday night just in case.

Until Kiffin and Saban talked about it Wed., I was thinking the SEC probably would move it to Fri. Now it appears they made the right call.

I am not saying that you are wrong on this as it makes sense that slipping and unstable ground would lead to less safe playing conditions, but I wonder if there are any hard numbers or data on that?

The way fields drain these days, the injury risk isn't as great as it used to be. Plus, Ole Miss has the field turf surface that drains even better. I don't think a wet surface is going to have a huge impact on the game unless it's just torrential rain. A wet ball in breezy conditions could have an impact.
