Pretty cool imo, but def a decision that doesnt really benefit him much... tho I respect the selfless decision.

Very weird situation here...

It’s a team first decision that’s hurts the team and hurts him.

Kind of surprised he would do that and give up a year, but it does seem that he is making improvements with Enos that he can take with him to his next stop.

Couldn’t he stay here with Enos all year and just not play in the games, and still work with Enos all year and get better? Why play in mop up duty all year and waste a whole season?

team chemistry a team divided will fall. if continuing as is keeps team chemistry, so be it. plus, jalen is playing better. no, he hasnt arrived yet, but he is playing better. ive been pretty critical of his play on the field, in the past. right now, i'm pretty proud of the young man and his growing maturity. tua and jalen are living out the thing books and movies are made about.

We are a better TEAM with Hurts. God forbid if something should happen to Tua, Jalen can at least run the offense. He can't make the throws Tua can but he is probably good enough to get us to the playoffs.

We need Jalen.

Yes. I think it's a weird situation. I don't understand what anyone is gaining from at least not TRYING to redshirt him. Mac Jones is more than capable of mop up duty. The only explanation I can think of is Hurts thinks he's going to be more of a co-starter than a backup. If he thinks that, it's because Saban has let him think that. If Saban let him think that, then it must be at least somewhat true. And, for the first time Saban has done something that I don't really understand.

How does it hurt the team? It gives Jalen meaningful reps so, in a worse case injury scenario, we've got someone who's capable of at least getting us to the play-offs. It looks like Jalen has made some progress in the passing game and the more he's able to play, the better he can get...

Could be wrong, but I don't think Jalen's been in a game yet where Bama didn't have at least a 3 TD lead...he's clearly the back-up. While it's more exciting to watch Tua play, I'd rather make sure he's healthy for the stretch run beginning in November...

That’s how the fans at the game feel too.. sit back and watch the stadium clear out. Would it be bad to atleast let Tua play to halftime.. he will need those reps too. Especially in the playoffs. He is still growing as a QB too. We forget how young he is and reps help him also. Especially in reading defenses. I really think Saban is cutting his reps too short to keep Jalen happy. QBs really develope and grow from in game situations. It’s really a disadvange to the future growth of Tua.

Saban has always talked about how football was intended to be played. No HUNH etc etc. Now he’s setting the precedence that you don’t have to be the best at your position, but you are going to get more snaps than the starter. I know by the time Hurts has come in, the game is well in hand, but to me it looks like Saban is willing to not put the best product on the field. I don’t like it. But that isn’t to say that it doesn’t have its benefits. Reduced risk of injury. And like most of you have said if it helps team chemistry so be it. I’m not a fan of it, but Saban is the one with 6 national titles, I’ll let him keep doing his thing lol.

I guess it will be different if a game is close, but that's the whole point. With Tua playing we're going to be up 4 TD's on almost everyone midway through the second quarter. I don't care much about individual awards, but frick, it would be nice to actually watch the team play to its full potential instead of taking a mercy knee before halftime.

Anybody remember in '04 when Shula left Croyle in a blowout game and he tore his ACL and was lost for the season?...shite happens.

Exactly. I've wondered that too. Is he so good that he doesn't need reps to get better?

It's just weird.

Saban isn't the heartless monster that a lot of people think, but I think this should have been a simple case of, "you lost your job to a better player" and we moved on. I do think he's letting his emotions for a player who has done the right thing interfere with how he would normally run the team.

Yes.. things happen. But that happened in the second half up 52.. Tua can barley make it to the second quarter. I’m just concerned with his development with lack of reps. Sure he is great.. but he still needs game time practice. Pull him at halftime. Tua hasnt played a full game when you add up all his game time minutes.

I think it negatively impacts your development not getting a starter's share of reps in a game. More passes to push consistency, and more plays to review on film. I also think from a mental standpoint it helps having your team's leader out there with all the other starters.

As long as we win I can get over it. It feels unfair to Tua to drag this out though. I also hate the pandering of "Jalen's skills help us win the game" when we all know that isn't true.

Me thinks Jalen was really close to transferring and this is Saban's plan of keeping him on the team.

If you look at Tua’s Passing stats he is 50% on passes 10-19 yards.. everything else he is 75% or better. That’s the area you really focus on with a 21 or 28 point lead until halftime. I noticed some of his timing was off last week. The kid needs game reps.. for timing, pocket awareness, reading a defense and passing touch. Hopefully he will get more this week..

Knowing that Jalen is transferring at EOY Mac needs all the quality snaps he can get.

If Mac were going to be the starter, next year, maybe. Nobody goes out of their way to play their third string guy just because he might be second string someday.

I think we're good right now. I'd love for Tua to put up Heisman stats, but he's honestly too valuable to leave in a game we're running away with. Get Jalen as many reps as you think he needs, then pass it off to Mac.

Maybe Mac could use a few more passing plays, but I don't think he really needs any more snaps unless something happens to one of the other guys.

I'm not too worried about Mac getting reps. I would just like to keep Tua in until middle third. Now he gets pulled in the first quarter.

Why? Obviously Jalen is capable too.

Are you suggesting Mac Jones is NOT capable of mop up duty? That logically follows your statement.

I don't think the sky is falling. I just think it's a weird situation. I thought Jalen would want to save a year of eligibility. I thought Saban would be content to do that as long as he wasn't actually needed.

AND, not only would I LIKE to see Tua play more, I think he probably NEEDS more reps.

I agree with you on Tua needing reps . Said it a week or so ago and got blasted on here by some. I don’t want him to get injured obviously, but the challenges and defenses are gonna get tougher from here on out and he needs to see things, make mistakes and grow as a qb
