Saban seems prepared to stake his entire career on Golding, and that will be his undoing

This week, he is publicly praising Golding. Saban just loves the guy for some reason and it’ll take someone hiring him away for us to get a new DC. We’re stuck with him.

I hope this does not end up like when George Lucas brought in Kathleen Kennedy to run Star Wars and after he left the franchise was stuck with her as she continues to destroy the franchise.

I don't see how Saban is any different from some the few still defending Bill O'Brien or those who think it's a personnel issue.

Both are pretty bad but that guy is significantly worse than Golding and has hid behind an amazing talent at QB which hasn't even developed in two years.

I agree as I think both coordinators need to go. I have no issue with the personnel because lack of development is on the staff and if the staff can not put the players in right position to be successful not much a player can do.

I mean the defense looks confused the majority of the times and we see them not set when the ball is snapped. The offense we have Young looking at the sideline every play and having to rush to get the play off. I think a lot of the issues with the QB/WR routes are confusion of what is being called. How many times do we see Young changing the play or making adjustments after the call was sent it. I believe he is seeing the defense setup better than our OC.

The most talented team in the country is gonna miss the playoff.
Pete Golding is half the reason for this.
Our only chance of the worse D coordinator we've had in a while not returning is another DUI.
No other successful organization, college or pro, will give him a call.

Or any unsuccessful program, for that matter . Our guy Pete is out there waking up to zero texts every day.

Exactly I get that OCs is trying to create mismatches but Pete seems to give mismatches up with out any effort ...or neutralizes a players physical skills.
A 1/4/6 against a agile QB is an easy read for a team with an agile QB and or semi decent back.

Dropping 31 or 15 into space is like taking your best salesman and assigning him to a HR proj for 6 months. 31 is the best player on the field when he is on there field and more times than not should beat the player across from him but putting him in coverage makes him an "ok" player It creates winning scenarios for the other team
And sometimes Golding even lines 31 & 15 up inside to get double-teamed, although they're terrors coming off the edge. Smh.

Wow

Even counting only the Golding years, since 2018, Alabama has won more games than any other team in the nation. And you would rather him retire than keep Golding, who is not a very good DC imo but is a great recruiter.

Are you so young that you don’t remember the Mike years? Which is not to say we will return to that, but the chances are more likely that Alabama will be just another good team than the best in the nation.

Unbelievable.

Saban created this expectation. This desire for only the best. We know what good football looks like and this ain't it.

So you agree with the poster that had rather Saban retire than to keep Golding ?

Please answer that, and tell me if you think Alabama will be as good without Saban as it has been with him, even only since 2018.

Maybe Saban is saying the personnel we have had on the defense the last 2 years stinks. But, if Saban really thinks Golding is doing a fine job, maybe Saban needs to step away. Golding is the reason for 2 losses more than anyone else and he almost cost the 2020 team with his awful defenses.

So do you also think the team would be better without Saban than with Saban if he keeps Golding ?

It's funny how ya'll seem to believe Saban has no hands on the defensive game plan and what adjustments are made during the game. Guys, Pete is a yes man running exactly what Coach Saban wants. Kirby and Jeremy would often pushback and Coach would listen to them many times; however, Pete does not do that.

Yep. It's why he keeps defending Pete.

Yes, Saban has led Alabama to some great years and that is appreciated and well documented. But I am looking at the now and the future. The direction Saban is CURRENTLY taking the program is negatively. No one person is above wanting the best for the program and players. If Saban is not doing what right and continues to take the program down, then I'd be all for him retiring. That goes for ANYONE.

So if it were up to you, you would fire Saban if he intended to keep Golding.

Tell me, then, who you would hire that you expect would win more games in the next 5 years than any other team in the nation, because that’s what Saban has done with Golding plus a national title and 3 of the last 4 SEC titles. Who would you hire to do this?

I don't understand why some don't see this point. We acknowledge that Saban is a once in a lifetime coach that we were fortunate to get. But if he can no longer put that same product on the field, then he has BECOME just average. He has to change something! If he is unwilling to see that or to do that, it might be time to be talking about another future head coach. I don't like that more than anyone but it is clear Saban is not the same as he used to be in terms of accepting only excellence from everyone! We have to be willing to understand that as fans as well.

Stubbornness is not going to help the current trajectory, it will end his career on a bad note.

You're spot on.
As long as he keeps his below average D coordinator around, all those top ranked recruiting classes won't mean a damn thing.
As it didn't this year.

Yes. Don't act like if LSU was in the same position and Kelly made this exact remark that you guys wouldn't be firing up the torches.

How about you. If you fired Saban, who would you hire that you expect would do a better job?
