You know, I post plenty of positive stuff about Bama. I’m asking a legit question. I’m worried Saban is nearing the end. I’ve lived through that before with Coach Bryant. It’s not fun and not pretty. The tightly run ship is not as tight. If you can’t see that, you’re blind. But then again there’s plenty of sunshine pumpers on here that if Tua’s foot fell off, they’d say at least it wasn’t his plant foot. You don’t like my posts? Nobody forces you to read them. So kindly STFU. At least I’m trying to generate genuine discussion and debate, not a cheerleading thread.

Most people that see it were around in the late 70s/early 80s when Bear visibly lost his fast ball.

I was just a young lad those days and too little to get it or care. Born in 74. 92 was great and this has been a blast. We’ve seen more national titles in our life span than most college football fans will ever see in 3 lifetimes.

Yeah, I’m a lucky, spoiled SOB. I’ve seen Bama win 9 national championships, 2 in person. And those 2 were sweet: the LSU payback game in the Superdome and the curb stomping of Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl.

I’m happy to say I’ve passed on my addiction to my oldest daughter who attended those 2 natties by my side and can recognize a corner blitz or a bubble screen better than most of the posters on here. Friday she got her acceptance letter to the Honors college and a Presidential Scholarship award and appears Bama Bound next fall unless Tulane or Wake Forest throws a full ride at her. That will make the decision more difficult and interesting but right now, her heart is set on Bama.

We’ve spent the last 12 months touring colleges all over the country. We’ve visited Miami, Tulane, Wake, Duke, Notre Dame, UNC, Sewanee, BSC, Davidson. Then last week she sat us down and said “I hope you’re not mad, but I’ve made a decision. I’ve been dragging you to all these schools looking for something better than what I already knew in Tuscaloosa. I never found it. Alabama is familiar, it’s comfortable, it’s home. I want to stop looking and applying. “

I’ve made a lot of dumb mistakes in my life, but I raised my kid right. She will almost certainly be a member of the UA class of 2024 then on to med school.

How many times do you have to watch a punter average 33 yards before you realize you need to make a change and put in the guy that's kicking it 45? How the hell could they not tell in the summer that this walk-on was better than any punter on the roster?

You have someone watch them kick the ball and you measure the time and distance. The guy who kicks it farther with more hang time is your better punter. If you can't get that right what else are you missing?

Saban has tried to calm down on the sidelines after he got the 15 yard penalty earlier this year. The man still has a fiery temper. I dont think it will help our freshmen to play better by having Saban scream at them when they come off the field. And Saban was definitely in our OC's ear late in the game. Im pretty sure he told him to not do anything stupid--just run the D ball.

Saban has always been the type of coach that you had to read between the lines to catch what he is saying or not saying. The dressing down of reporters, etc.. a lot of times is to get a message to his team.

Last year when the Barbershop videos started, something stuck out to me. One of the first Barbershop talks was with Julio. Amongst their talking points, Julio was talking to a current player and said that the 4th quarter program is not as tough now as it was when he went through. Saban agreed and made the statement that he was changing the culture of the program and was a lot more intense and tougher when he first got there.

During our off week before the aTm game, Saban was on Game Day via video chat with Kirk/Lee/Des/Reece. Saban was in his back yard in front of the pool for the video chat. Near the end of the conversation, Reece ask coach, when was the last time you got in that pool. Coach said the first 10 years he lived there, he had never got into the pool. Since his granddaughter was born, the last 3 years he gets in it all the time.

Folks see what they want to see, but I think coach has mellowed. As you age, you tend to do this.

Like stated previously, most folks don't remember Bear, but there were similar rumblings about him his last few years as HC. In recent history, Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno went through the same problems.

I don't think CNS is there, and certainly wouldn't run a program half arse the way Joe Pa and Bobby did by hanging on too long, but if you look, coach has definitely mellowed.

There is some serious dumb-frickery in this thread.

Bryant’s last year was bad but he was three seasons removed from going undefeated and winning a title. He won or tied for the SEC the year before he retired. The year before that he went 10-2

Jesus we have spoilt pussy, bleeding vag fans. Dumb ones who don’t know their Bama history at that. Most of these guys would be crying for Bryant yo be fired. We are ranked #1, undefeated, and are on another title run but somehow Saban is losing it.

Ridiculous

You essentially said "well we were good when Bear was at then end" ... then said "but we're no where near close to the end of the Saban era because we're still good!!"

I swear by all that's holy, if some people don't stop with this crap, I'm gonna get truly angry.

How many times do people have to be told (in some cases, by Coach Saban himself) that until a player can do something consistently in practice, he's not gonna get the chance to do that same thing in a game?

Now, I'm not at practice, but I absolutely refuse to believe that our coaching staff is just so blind-headedly stupid that they'll intentionally just keep a player on the sidelines who's doing everything right in practice.

We've seen it over and over and over again. When is it going to sink in for some folks that the reason a player isn't starting on Saturdays is because he didn't do his job consistently as well as somebody else in practice?

Yes, there are "gamers" who, for whatever reason, play during an actual game much better than they practice. And there are others who, for whatever reason, practice like Tarzan and play like Jane.

And to hold this up as an example of "things are wrong; what else could they be missing" is asinine in the extreme.

They said Tua made strides during bowl practice that year.

Yes they were. And according to reports, a fair number of passes were made to the defense in September and October.

You seriously want to argue that our coaching staff is intentionally keeping players out of the game they KNOW will do a great job?
