Maybe he does leave, but given how tight-knit these dudes have been the past few years I'd be surprised if he does
Agreed. They would have had to have discussed timelines/commitment prior to Grubb accepting the OC position, especially since he's been a hot property for a couple of years now.
To me, it wouldn't be so much the loss of Grubb himself (which would be a huge blow so late in the hiring window), but rather how it would reflect on Coach DeBoer's ability to hire/retain staff.

Saban would hunt him down and disappear him if he leaves . He had to retire to get him here.

Would hate to lose him, but I figured he was going to get elevated to UW's HC when we hired DeBoer anyway.

Grubb and DeBoer have worked together since 2007 when DeBoer was the head coach at Sioux Falls. He has followed DeBoer to Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, Washington, and now Alabama. I think DeBoer has demonstrated he can retain staff members. Grubb wants to be a head coach. He was interested in the Washington job but was not offered. A successful stint as OC at Bama and he would have his choice of jobs.

Grubb made it crystal clear that he preferred to stay in Washington as head coach. So the DeBoer loyalty narrative isn’t in play. I asked before why was he never introduced as OC? Why has he not changed social media to Bama like all other coaches?
I fully expect him to leave. Rumors that I am hearing which are potentially meaningless rumors is that it’s actually his wife that really does not want to move to Alabama. And if the wife ain’t supportive of the move then…

The fact he wanted to be the head of coach of Washington does not mean he isn't loyal to Deboer. He wants to be a head coach. If he is successful at Bama he could probably have his pick of offers. Many OCs jobs in the NFL do not last long.

Lol what a stupid take. These coaches have their own agenda with their career. Nothing to do with the head coach of a football team or a CEO of a company, or just an everyday boss.

Grubb got his big start with DeBoer. He has been with him for 17 years. I know some people are very cynical but there still are people who value relationships and are loyal.

None of the staff moves have officially been announced by Alabama. DeBoer is the only coach listed on Rolltide.com .

Yes but all the other coaches have transitioned over to all things Bama and have been ‘seen’ out and about recruiting, meeting high school coaches, etc. Grubb has basically been in hiding.

Edit - Just speculation on my part....

We must have the same sources. Lol.
What you stated is fairly close to the rumors that I was hearing about her attitude.

I don't know where some people get their information. Grubb has been on the recruiting trail. He was at Jackson High school on Wednesday.

You do realize that Ryan Grubb has been out recruiting for Bama and meeting high school coaches.

I can’t imagine being married to a woman that is going to stop me from advancing my career because it will put us in a place she doesn’t like for a couple years. The coach life (most sports, not just football) is a fairly nomadic one. Everyone knows this going in. Even the wives.
My respect for Grubb would hit the shits if it comes out he chose to not go to Bama because his wife is too selfish to move there lol

No assistant coach has been introduced. The only football coach even listed on the coaching staff on RollTide.com is Kalen DeBoer. I don’t think any of them will be officially listed until the Board of Trustees gives their seal of approval on contracts. There have been pictures on Twitter of Grubb, wearing Alabama gear and accompanying other Alabama assistants, out recruiting for Alabama.

The one and only sighting of Grubb. He has not been with DeBoer otherwise.

I have no idea why anyone on this message board would know jack shite about Grubb's family situation. This smacks of the "Mrs Terry is sick" BS.

Don’t forget “Saban will take the Texas job because Mrs. Terry hates Tuscaloosa”
