Reality is there’s a very slim chance he’ll ever coach in college again. He screwed up big time and that’s a shame. Great basketball mind, one of the all time best.

7 out of 8 recommendations is not gonna happen.

One thing about it , if he was coach his team would not look like a bunch of 40 year olds having a Saturday afternoon pick up game at the Y.
Play hard, shoot 3s, and make foul shots.
If we could get 5-6 good years we both would be in a better place.

how in the world would Rick Pitino be able to get players? You know the NCAA would be watching his every move.
does that mean you expect Alabama will "get players" by offering incentives? Perhaps the old "everybody does it" excuse?
Well, in that case I'd say that Pitino, then, was no different than any other major college coach.
No offense intended. Kind of playing Devil's Advocate.
edit to say that hopefully, whoever the coach is, he won't be stupid enough to be directly involved with "getting players", with recorded phone conversations to prove it.

I don't want Pitino. But the man can coach.
We tried to hire Hugh Freeze, he is certainly no worse.

so you want to fire Saban? The point is, and it's a simple one: if Saban has good years left, then Pitino probably does as well.
edit to note that Saban had Alabama competing for the conference title his 2nd year. It's generally quicker for a good coach to build a contender in basketball.
All that said, I doubt it will happen.

Am I wrong in thinking that it's still possible he could end up with a show-cause after this pay-for-play/shoe agent scandal is wrapped up?
I may be wrong but I thought he was more on the Pearl (and many others) end of the spectrum than the Wade end. Meaning some assistants are in trouble but he has deniability and is not directly implicated.

Well he was the HC and it was discovered that an assistant coach was having parties where prostitutes were provided for players, also had Adidas paying players big money to commit there, sure he can have some deniablity but really, who believes he had no idea that any of that was going on?
There are reasons he had to go to Europe to find simeone willing to hire him as a Bball coach.

Ok. But, if the new coach doesn't come in here and isn't willing to either pay top tier recruits or turn a blind eye to top tier recruits being paid he will be fired in a few years. You can't get away from top tier recruits getting paid.

I dont think we are desperate enough to resort to all out cheating but I wouldn’t be against hiring Petino or Kelvin Sampson fwiw. Pearl and Calipari are two of the dirtiest coaches in the country and if they can get away with hiring them I don’t see why we can’t.

Rick Pitino won't be able to recruit so it's irrelevant how good a coach he is.
With everything known about him out in the open, right down to shagging staff wives and getting hookers for students, no self respecting family is going to allow him in the living room.

You would be surprised what some moms will overlook for their sons to play for a coach that will put them in position to play after they finish school. NBA or Europe. Where ever.

Not if they have other offers.... which pretty much ends us with anyone higher than a three star.

Well, we can only hire one head coach, so whatever list you come up with can never have more than 1 that can happen.

I agree. If Auburn can hire Pearl, we can hire Pitino.
Using Auburn to justify anything is just piss poor form.
