I don't think he's as bad as all that. I'd put him above BooB for sure.

He’s bad. His offenses sucked here and at Notre Dame.

Hard to rank because of who each OC had to work with at QB.

1. Kiffin (because what he did with Blake Sims in 2014 was amazing. Only wish he had chosen to run the ball more against OSU)
2. Sarkisian
3. McElwain
4. Daboll
5. Locksley
6. Rees
7. Nussmeier
8. O’Brien
9. Applewhite

He isn’t great, but he had his hands full with the options we has at QB this past season.

Sarkisian: 2020 was perfect
Kiffin: great QB dev, good scheme, bad QB identification
Locksley: did well but offense was too loaded to fail
Daboll: chained to Hurts, wanted Tua
Mcelwain: very solid
Rees: OL and QB issues
BOB: horrific OL, but BY at QB. Bad scheme
Applewhite: wasn’t ready yet
Nussmier: he was a mess

How do you have Rees over Locksley? Locksley had a high scoring offense and had his starters resting by the 2nd quarter in SEC play.

I don't understand why Daboll is so high. He didn't do anything to develop Hurts and he noticeably regressed. I know it's thought that he wanted to play Tua, but as an NFL guy he should have been used to not getting that much control over the roster. When Hurts came back in the 2018 SECCG under Locksley, he looked massively improved again.

There's a reason Saban so easily let Daboll go.

Sark and Lane are a pretty easy top 2. BOB is far and away the worst.

Did we ever let a fan call a play for charity or something? If so, put them here.

Bill O'Brien has a good scheme but he's not a good playcaller. Alabama had far too many 3 and out drives for him. His success as a playcaller was all about the "first first down" in a drive. If he could get a possession started, he usually could get the offense into a rhythm. He just struggled with getting a possession started.

Tommy Rees demonstrated no core understanding of the scheme Alabama used or simply did a poor job of apply concepts from his Brian Kelly tutelage to the playbook. There is a reason nobody has gobbled him up as soon as he retired. He has no great reputation for developing quarterbacks and he's a lower end offensive playcaller.

I think Daboll had a good scheme but was not much of a QB coach. I believe the scuttlebutt is he advocated for Tua most of the 2017 season because he knew that was his meal ticket.

One thing...completely unfair to him...that handicapped Applewhite was the loss of an All American center, another starting offensive lineman, and Glen Coffee for several games due to the textbook scandal.

Daboll went from being the OC at Alabama to being an NFL OC, which he then parlayed into an NFL head coaching gig and NFL Coach of the Year award. I don't think there was any "letting go" by Saban. He had always been an NFL guy and was probably always going back.
