I just hope that Fatlock gets a "retirement" presser where he breaks down and sobs again like he did back in 2008 when they forced him out the first time.

I'm pretty sure if their "cause" for firing him was a Level II violation, or because someone under him committed a violation, then I very seriously doubt that the NCAA will hit him with a show cause. I'm actually surprised he actually agreed to that kind of language in his contract.

Wow - well, works out for us. Tennessee can fire him for something that doesn't preclude us from putting him on our staff.

Win-win for us!

I wonder if Sark will try to swoop in and get him at Texas

I don't see us touching him if he's legitimately being fired for recruiting violations.

Yeah.....I don't know what the story is but it must be bad to get fired for cause and no buy-out. I loved Pruitt as DC but we don't need the heat.

It was an internal investigation by UT who were looking for anyway to get out of his buyout. It likely isn't that bad.

I'm guessing the only head coach who can bring Pruitt in after this stuff this quickly is Saban.

No way a brand new head coach can do that.

Did you read my previous post in this thread? His contract stated that UT could fire him over Level II violations, and for violations made by his assistants. Nether of those type of violations would get him a show cause by the NCAA. He was a fool to even sign that contract imo.

Good Afternoon Horns247!!

— Yahoo's Pete Thamel tweeted that Tennessee is planning to part ways with head football coach Jeremy Pruitt on Monday, a development that could have implications for Steve Sarkisian's defensive coordinator search, sources told Horns247.

Sources have indicated to Horns247 that Sarkisian was focused on Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding to take over the same position at Texas but that Alabama coach Nick Saban was objecting to that unless Saban had a suitable defensive coordinator replacement.

Sources close to the situation have told Horns247 Saban thinks Pruitt was the best defensive coordinator Saban has had at Alabama, and those sources said Saban has known for weeks that Pruitt might be let go at Tennessee.

So the biggest question is if Tennessee lets go of Pruitt for cause - meaning school officials have found something they think Pruitt did that might've violated his being eligible for a contract buyout - could Pruitt be facing some kind of "show-cause" penalty from the NCAA (even though it would likely take months or even a year before that's ruled on by the NCAA)?

A show-cause penalty means any NCAA penalties imposed on a coach found to have committed major rules violations would stay in effect against the coach for a specified period of time and could be transferred to any other NCAA-member school that tries to hire the coach while the sanctions are still in effect. Both the school and coach are required to send letters to the NCAA agreeing to abide by the restrictions imposed.

Obviously, if Saban has interest in hiring Pruitt as his defensive coordinator, Golding would become available for Sarkisian as defensive coordinator.

Another name to keep an eye on as a hot defensive coordinator candidate at any top program is current Tennessee defensive coordinator Derrick Ansley, a former defensive backs coach at Alabama (2016-17) and the Oakland Raiders (2018) who is also considered an elite recuiter.

Stay tuned.

My guess is unless Sark would offer him a bazillion dollars being close to home would be a priority. I doubt he wants to head out to Austin right now.

From what has leaked out it sounds like their golden boy Niedermeyer that all of a sudden became a recruiting sensation was probably playing fast and loose.

Obviously it will come back to if Pruitt was involved in that personally or had knowledge. The general "created an atmosphere of non-compliance" issue probably won't give him personally a show cause.

Ansley would be interesting. I wonder how the relationship was with him in Saban. I think he got a DC job at either or Colorado or CSU but the got the Oakland DB job so never went.

I am assuming a lot of it has to do with the wording of his contact. It states committing level one and two violations, but it also states not reporting or omitting information to the compliance dept that could lead to violations. They also interviewed the LBs coach. If that coach did something but Pruitt told Fulmer but not the compliance dept, it would read that he violated his contract.

"Conduct or omission(s) by Coach that constitutes a Level I or Level II violation of one or more Governing Athletic Rules; or conduct or omission(s) by Coach that is likely to lead to a NCAA finding of a Level I or Level II violation of one or more Governing Athletic Rules; failure to report a violation of rules to the athletics director or compliance staff; failure to promote and maintain an atmosphere of compliance; and failure to monitor all employees who report directly and indirectly to him."

Parts of that are really open to interpretation.

The question mark will be whether he's an analyst or an on field coach. My guess would be he's an analyst for 2021. But I'd be shocked if he wasn't in the building every day wearing Crimson.

My guess is that since they're not giving him his buyout, he's going to go for the biggest payday he can get; which will be an on the field role somewhere.

Hopefully at Bama as DC

I'm thinking UT based their for-cause termination on minor violations that would not put UT at risk of getting hit with an NCAA investigation and any serious punishment. So, I doubt Pruitt was fired for violations that could result in a show cause.

Yeah if they can fire him for cause over Level 2 violations those are all they were interested in finding and all they will self report.

May have spoken too soon. ESPN is reporting the investigation uncovered multiple alleged Level I violations.

quote:

Pruitt, with his attorneys present, met with investigators for several hours Thursday. That meeting was monitored by NCAA officials via Zoom. At least one other assistant, inside linebackers coach Brian Niedermeyer, had a lengthy meeting with investigators Wednesday, also with his attorneys present and NCAA officials monitoring virtually.

Sources told ESPN the investigation uncovered multiple alleged Level I violations.

LINK

If they can prove multiple Level I violations, then Pruitt might be radioactive. I guess we'll have to see how it plays out.

He kind of sucked last year. If you don't think Dylan Moses or Christian Harris can cover Tight Ends or Running Backs go watch some Henry T. footage.

He's a smaller, more athletic Trey DeFeast. Pretty good player running towards the LoS. Mediocre running parallel to it. Total disaster running away from it.

Also, if Pruitt is implicated in a bunch of Level 1 shite then he and UTk are bigly yuge fricked. They'll hire Steele to be their Johnelle for a year or two until the sanctions are over and then find someone else.
