It worked impeccably, until the last two drives. I believe that Saban gave Golding the chance to call those last two drives for his job. The results were telling. Moving forward, I fully expect Saban to allow Kelly to assist him with the play-calling. While Golding will be kept on to keep up appearances, I truly don’t expect him to have much of a hand in the defense other than his specialty, linebackers, moving forward.

After this season, I’m calling it now, Pete Golding will not be Alabama’s defensive coordinator.

I wouldn’t be surprised, at all, if he is relieved prior to the end of the season, however, it’s hard to imagine Saban would make a change that drastic mid-season.

He's throwing shite against the wall and hope it sticks.

There's some "insider" chatter on BOL that Golding won't be at Bama next season.

Any inside info on Pete’s status moving forward? Is he still calling plays?

It was true last year, I’m not sure about now.

The best part about Golding is we have to hear about how complex our defense is, learning the calls, etc..

However if you actually watch our defense and understand the different coverages and types of blitz we are so simple we run man with some kind of run or pass delayed blitz most of the time.

Due to teams spreading us out we tend to be looking like zero where we have basically minimal help over the top due to safeties needing to cover straight up or make the delayed blitz.

It literally doesn't make sense we're suppose to be so complicated but we really aren't.

There’s also rumors Golding was shopped around this past off season and there were no takers so Saban let him stay. That should be Golding’s problem now.

If that’s true, it’s pretty shocking that Saban would just continue the course after acknowledging that he has a huge liability within the program.

Golding should have been gone last year, and honestly the reigns should be taken from him right now and handed to someone else.

The difference between this team and other teams that won a natty after a loss is that those teams had leaders on the team. I don’t see any players leading worth a crap on this team.

If Saban recognizes there is a problem on defense that cannot be fixed, why wait until the end of the season to make a change? Surely, someone on staff could fill in.

Perhaps/possible that Nick held on to Pete this year thinking the Pruitt and UT situation would be cleared so JP could be hired for the 2022 season.

We'll see.

We've been hearing insider chatter that Pete is gonna be gone for 3 years now.

I'll believe that damn chatter when I see it.

Fat Phil hiring away Germ was his last frick you to Bama before his big arse got put out to pasture. And it absolutely hurt this program. God I hate Philip Fulmer.

Maybe Saban is trying to build him up so he can get a job? At this point though, I don’t see why a top linebacker would want to come to Bama. They get embarrassed most of the time now a days.

Yep. And it was removed because he knew he was FOS

The halftime changes, however, tell me that Saban switched it up himself. Either that or Golding is just terrible at adjusting on the fly (which is obvious).

I’ll go on record right now saying that Golding will not be retained after this season. If Saban hates losses as much as he says, with him being a defensive guy, he’ll simplify it like he did for Ole Miss for the remainder of the season and pull the plug on the Golding experiment at season’s end.

We need to fire our insiders while we're at it.

This is why Pruitt is the best DC option. Not only is he one of the best defensive minds available, but he is definitely one of the best talent evaluators in the country.
