I hope he didn't torpedo the deal.

He meaning who? As long as Battle still has open communication with Marshall and Solomon we are still in good shape.

Sounds to me like Marshall got our best offer, and is now spending time with WSU to get the best counter offer they have. I am not feeling good about Marshall myself.

Give me Prohm over Pitino, but they will have killed ALL enthusiasm which usually goes with a new hire.

From the shockers board

quote:

Gary Parrish on 610 AM: from what I've heard from people close to the situation, Gregg wasn't blown away by Alabama yesterday. My best guess is he is back at Wichita next season. He's not a priority at Texas because their AD is a weirdo.

Well that would be pretty disappointing.

Wasn't blown away by doubling his salary along with complete control? I don't buy it.

This. Also, its from the shockers board. Does anyone here actually live in Memphis to hear Parrish on air? He's not said anything on twitter about this and he was ahead of things last week. He wouldn't want to forfeit his lead on this story if he had something new to share.

May not land Marshall, but it's not over yet at all (heck, Pat Forde had "sources" that said we shouldn't even bother).

Three Thoughts:

1) No mention of this on Parrish's Twitter Account. You'd think he'd tweet something like that.

2) How could someone not be blown away by an offer that would double their salary and make them one of the Top 5 paid coaches?

3) If true, then either Marshall is a really arrogant SOB or Battle did a horrific job selling UA to Marshall.

Another reason these reports are false. If you are Travis Ford and you hear Okie State is pursuing Marshall to fill your shoes do you hang around waiting to be fired??

You absolutely do. For two reasons:

1) Where would he go?
and, most importantly
2) if they fire him they owe him $9.6M

How could GM not be blown away with Alabama athletics at the moment? Saban and his team sure haven't been an asset in this hire.

The folks in the know are still confident. If the meeting had not gone well yesterday, we would have heard through several different channels. Again, folks in the know think this could take later into the week to be resolved.

Bama was talking to Pitino as far back as last summer, before we even knew how Grant would do this year.

Yeah Ok st isn't firing him this season, those reports are false

I don't even think Walton or whoever the frick would have to pay the buyout would pay that one holy shitballs $9.6M :

I think it must be him trying to convince his family if he is interested, if he wasn't everyone would already know the answer to Bama's offer.

IMO it says a lot that I've seen and heard from more than one person and "source" that has said he desires his next move to be a retirement job. He can achieve that at Bama, the potential is definitely there, SEC, covered in the area with one of his specialties JuCo establishments (he's probably the best coach in the country at JuCo evals, recruiting and development as a previous poster-Bird I think- mentioned), coupled with the unlimited resources Bama is about to provide to him in recruiting budget, and an arena already 5000 seats larger than what is at Wichita St (and I'm sure plans to expand if he comes will soon be in the works)

His history has shown that his family is extremely comfortable in Wichita, Ks so that is the biggest hang-up I see in this happening. 3x the salary spends the same in Kansas as it does in Alabama though
