We lost to Wichita State in the NIT final four years ago today.

At this stage of things, I don't think that will have any affect on Marshall's decision. We're potentially hours away from hiring the guy.

Hey guys, I'm a long time lurker, and I thought I'd finally create an account. So hello. Now let's get down to business. I was feeling pretty optimistic about HCGM staying with us until I stumbled upon a couple of red flags on Twitter. The first one is about a tweet Darius sent tonight. All it said was "Plot twist." This could mean anything, but to me, it's a red flag. The second one and the more alarming of the two concerns Markis McDuffie. I've been following him on Twitter since he signed with us, and I'm 99% sure that he's had the phrase "Shocker Nation" in his bio ever since. Much to my surprise, he no longer has that on his Twitter as of tonight. It could mean nothing (heck, I could even be wrong that he ever had it), but I'm afraid it means something. My guess is that he found out tonight that Marshall is leaving. I hope he stays, but I fear we'll find out tomorrow (or today I guess) that he's taking the Alabama or Texas job. Let me know your thoughts

At least we aren't the only ones on the internet going crazy tonight.

Nothing new or groundbreaking, but it's at least optimistic.

Gregg Marshall may wake up Tuesday morning and decide that he simply can't leave the good thing he has going at Wichita State for the good thing he could build at Alabama. Unless and until he reaches that conclusion and announces it to the world, Alabama has reason to believe it's still in the game to complete the biggest hire of the season. Monday was a good day in the Alabama search. It was progress toward landing the biggest available fish in the sea, and it was a sign to the rest of the college basketball world that the school intends to do everything possible to lift its men's basketball program to the same championship level as other programs on campus. Bill Battle flew to Wichita, which wouldn't have happened if Marshall or someone in his camp hadn't given the Alabama AD a thumbs-up to make the trip. Battle spent about seven hours with Marshall, a sign that this was much more than a courtesy call. There's reason to believe that Crimson Tide officials felt good about the day's events even if Marshall didn't accompany Battle on the return trip to Alabama. On another front, it appears that Texas may not be the serious competitor for Marshall that some people envisioned when UT fired long-time head coach Rick Barnes on Sunday. Two different reports, one from Jon Rothstein of CBSsports.com and the other from Chip Brown of HornsDigest.com, said the Texas search was focusing on VCU's Shaka Smart, not on Marshall. Brown reported that, according to his sources, Texas AD Steve Patterson "didn't see Marshall as a good fit 'personality wise' for Texas" because "Marshall has a reputation for being blunt and speaking his mind, which can come off the wrong way at times." That's funny. Those are qualities Alabama has embraced in its football coach, Nick Saban. It's to Alabama's advantage if it doesn't have to compete with Texas, primarily because the Longhorns have a decided edge in the number of quality players available in their own state. At the moment, it appears that Marshall's real choices are between returning to Wichita State to continue as the dominant program in the Missouri Valley Conference or accepting the challenge to turn Alabama into one of the better programs in the Power-5 SEC. Alabama's been there before. It's clear that Marshall is taking Alabama's interest seriously. It's just as clear that Alabama is serious about becoming a major basketball player again.

Higher than that. Most feel that we're in great shape. However, nothing new has developed or leaked since Battle returned. Either nobody knows anything and Marshall hasn't given us a final decision or there are some very tight lips in Battle's inner-circle.

My guess is that Marshall agreed to the job but wanted a night to discuss it with his family and sleep on it. We'll get the final answer today. We're probably in great shape but this isn't over yet.

All is Quiet on the Western Front.

I guess we're in the "don't pressure him and let him decide" phase. This is my least favorite phase.

Seems like it. I like to call it the "Let Rich Rod talk to Rita" Phase.

While that couldn't have turned out better, let's hope this situation is different.

Lucky says he continues to hear we're in good shape and should hear something soon. Who knows when "soon" will be though.

Also, the folks on the shocker boards are starting to turn on Marshall. You can tell they aren't accustomed to these things. It's the inevitable, "I don't like how he's handling this" mentality that always pops up when they start to doubt.
