He's just getting his bad evals out of the way. Next year is scorched earth.

If only there were any UNCs on the 1 seed line this year.

Then frick it man if we lose to a 1 seed then that means we’ve made the Sweet 16 for the 4th year in a row and the 5th time in 6 years

The people having a crisis questioning whether the program needs to take another step would also have a panic attack if the Michigan State job opened tomorrow

Bama has been very bi-polar since Oats arrived. It doesn't surprise me anymore.

Explain to me how making the NCAA Tournament every year is bi-polar in comparison to the 20 years before Oats arrived.

Almost all of Alabama’s problems the last 3 seasons have been that we aren’t really a hard hat type of program. It is quickly becoming likely that 2021 and 2023 were aberrations not expectation for this staff when it comes to defense.

Until we actually can produce stops and not just hope the opponent misses, we’re going to lose games we should not. Beard has already beaten Oats twice with vastly inferior teams because his teams are actually hard hat not just tossing them around like pez dispensers.

Edit: left out this point. Sure I’d say this loss is on our 3rd and 4th most important offensive options getting essentially skunked but we can’t win games like that consistently because defense is not good enough to hold anyone under 80.

Oats is unbeaten against Houston and went 4-2 against Broome and Caldwell at Auburn. Even got that Tennessee monkey off our back

I totally agree with you. It’s time to get rid of the hard hat mantra. He recruits choir boys in the post and tries to make them tough. Bowen, Williamson and Sherrell are easily the softest front court in the SEC. All are afraid of contact and all don’t know how to rebound. A big shooting the three is a plus but it shouldn’t be his lone reason for being on the team unless he’s a 40% three point shooter.

Mallette is playing too many minutes. His defense is not good and on offense he can’t create his own shot. I honestly feel he and Bethea should split minutes to provide an offensive spark. Calling timeouts and diving for loose balls is cool at times but at some point we need someone who can simply put the ball in the hoop.

We just couldnt make shots last night. Had plenty of chances to not only win, but win decisively, but the ball was simply not falling into the basket. Had plenty of good looks. Flipside, it seemed like most of their tough shots were going in. Just not our night. I thought they played pretty good defense.

They hit 7 or 8 shots with a defender draped all over them. We gave up some easy ones in the first half, but I thought we defended fairly well in the 2nd.

Brian Adams still needs to be done. His defensive designs do not work. We have had the effort, but it doesnt matter if what theyre being taught is a mess.

We missed shots we normally make, and they were more comfortable on the rims. We need to remember that they massively underachievers all year too. Ole Miss is a talented team. They have players.

You always seem to discredit that win as a gift wrapped one seed match up. UNC won the acc outright, went 17-3 in the conference and if Bama doesn't beat UNC the ACC puts 4 teams in the elite 8 that year. I'm not trying to make the argument that UNC was a world beater, but I think they were a valid 1 seed

Yep, OM is much better than their record, and are really peaking right now. I knew it wasnt our night when the shot clock was at 1 and our guy had a hand in front of dude's face and dude just blindly threw up a 3 from his hip and swished it.

observations from the stat lines

Two starters scored 5 combined points
only 5 turnovers
We missed around 8 FT's. Difference in the game. I was multi tasking so I dont know if we missed a lot of the front end of the one and one.

We are a lazy team defensively and I don't mean that from the effort of the players (even though they have their moments as well). When we get down or behind late in games, defensively we don't have any schematic adjustments. We can't trap because we don't know how. We can't run 3/4 or full court press because we don't know how. There isn't going to be a point where we "ratchet up the defense" and cause chaos. We are going to chase you around in man switching coverage and hope like hell you miss and we are going to outscore you. We also have a horrible tendency to extend coverage on bad shot takers.

Brian Adams is a nightmare that needs to be over with, but I also think Nate has to prioritize having a few more layers to his defensive strategy.

No one’s saying they weren’t a valid 1 seed. They were just the weakest one of the bunch and the only one we truly matched up with well. NCAAT is often about matchups, and that one was very favorable to us allowing us to make our first final 4.

There isn’t a 1 seed this year that offers us a matchup like that. All the 1 seeds have extremely strong front courts, which is our Kryptonite. Certain teams can force their will on people, and that UNC team wasn’t one of those teams. All the 1 seeds this year are.

We aren’t the basketball version of the dynasty Death Star. That’s pretty much it

6th most wins in the Power Conferences since Covid and that’s with Oats’ schedules of deaths
