I think that comment is being blown out of proportion. It's not like he said he's out looking for assistant. His point was that he's not just shutting the door on someone simply because they are an assistant.

Agreed. I was just responding to the poster saying they'd rather have kept Avery. Even if it does come down to hiring an assistant (and I really doubt that happens), I'd rather have the hope that we might be hiring a great coach than knowing we're stuck with one that's definitely not a great coach.

I’m calling it right now:

1) Matta is plan A. Byrne makes him say no.
2) Prohm with Bucky as his right hand man is plan B.
3) if we get this far Byrne will shock us all with someone way off the radar that may not wow us but will probably turn out to be a pretty solid hire.

I think it’s as simple as that. And I hope Thad is healthy and says let’s do this.

If that's the 2nd person Byrne calls, he's not trying very hard.

I would make Billy Donovan say NO. He 99% will but Im at least reaching out.

Thad Matta is #2.

Steve Forbes is #3.

Prohm/ Bucky js #4

Andy Kennedy should be our if all else fails plan.

I'd honestly rather just promote Pettway if it were to come down to that. At least then we could compare it to other situations where a long time assistant got the promotion and became highly successful even though deep down we all know it will be a fricking disaster. With Kennedy, we'd just know it would be a disaster and there'd be no bargaining or rationalization. Only cold, depressing reality.

I'd say that Matta is 1 and Hoiberg is 2

Cecil Hurt said on the TideSports podcast this morning ( LINK) that the call has already been placed with Billy D and the answer came back no.

Hard to believe a guy enjoys coaching NBA over college. Season is a grind, from October to possibly June.

Not having to worry about recruiting easily makes the NBA preferable to college.

In the NBA, all they have to worry about is coaching. The college level just involves so much more.
