Meantime, Alabama officials have let in-state star Trendon Watford, a three-time state champion (pictured above with LeBron James), know that he’s a priority recruit for the school, regardless of who the new coach is.

“They just fired their coach, Avery Johnson was the first coach to ever offer me,” said Watford, who’s also considering LSU, Indiana, Memphis and Duke and plans to announce April 20 at the Jordan Brand Classic Game in Las Vegas. “I feel like the program has good guys coming back, so we’ll just see how that turns out with the next head coach.”

In the meantime, Watford said Alabama officials are making him a priority.

“They’ve reached out,” he said. “I don’t know who the next head coach will be, but the players are still reaching out to me, saying they want me to be their teammate.”

He added: “If they hire somebody in the next few weeks or next week and they start recruiting me, then we’ll just go from there.”

I saw that. I'm not good at twitter though so I didn't know if that's a reputable source.

Jerry Meyer is apparently hearing the same thing as Joe Goodman (or at least passing off Goodman's column as "sources").

Prohm as HC with Bucky McMillan as an assistant.

Hearing talk that his high school coach will join the new staff at Alabama as an assistant.

Word circulating is as an assistant for Prohm.

Also from his comments about geography I wonder if Jans and/or Craig Smith is in the mix. Especially when he says they don’t have to win the press conference.

I’m really hoping for Matta now. He’s the best of the realistic choices.

Byrne just nixed Pitino with his comments and frick Gregg Marshall, I’d rather shut the program down.

Pitino is 67 years old, and is widely regarded as one of the slimiest coaches in basketball. If any other SEC team hired him, everyone on this board would bash them. There's a lot of coaches I'd rather have.

He never did that at UK, only at Louisville

He didn't DO IT, or he didn't get CAUGHT?

College basketball is dirty. I understand that. But, he's old, and lugging a lot of baggage. And your AD just told you straight out, it ain't happening.

Sinc Pitino is apparently out, I'd say this begins and ends with Matta. Pay the man and hope he says yes

Wiseman is headed to the McDonald’s All-American Game in Atlanta next Wednesday, and plans to do some recruiting while he’s there. He wants fellow All-Americans Trendon Watford and Precious Achiuwa to join him at Memphis, as well as sharp shooter Lester Quinones, who took an official to Memphis last weekend.

Byrne said he would consider a high-level assistant for the job.

Is this true?

I saw Cecil tweet this. That's something interesting I hadn't really considered. Basically, we can hire a new team. We need to pick someone who has some good players.

Wouldn't get to a serious discussion spot if he wasn't, IMHO

If Matta is healthy we better not let him leave Tuscaloosa without a signed contract and a moving truck.

Matta has been very public about his health being his top priority. Any school who hires him will know he’s healthy because he has said he absolutely will not coach until he is.
