I saw him pounding pitchers at Innisfree.

Just for reference we hired CAJ on Easter Sunday 2015. I’m not exactly sure when we fired Grant but the Gregg Marshall saga happened before we hired Johnson and Wichita made a tourney run that year. Long story short we could have our guy locked down any day now

I've been a fan of Yaklich since day one. I bet we can get him for $1.5 million and spending another $1 million on Pat Beilein as his associate head coach. Establish a southern version of Michigan Bball.....

Especially if it's Matta. That's why I hope we hear from Byrne this week

Do people think Bucky would be an assistant for Thad or is that just a Prohm scenario?
Obviously we know nothing for sure after the Byrne PC today, just gauging what the majority thinks as of now.

While true BUT if the player had MORE discipline and pride then he would have worked harder to become a better player with or without better coaching. The next guy wearing the whistle needs to not be afraid of putting his foot up the azz of the current roster of slackers!

I’d guess it’s pretty simple. If Bucky can promise Trendon, he’s got a job with the new HC. No Trendon, no job. One recruit may not seem like a big deal for the big picture of the program, but landing Watford would be a huge start for whoever the new guy is.

Well Watford is supposed to announce soon so i hope we find someone soon.

I hope who ever is the HC hires the people who can do what he wants as his assistants. Would rather lose Watford or any other player over hiring an asst just for getting a player.

Nice article on Thad.

Any drawbacks? Thad Matta is still a younger man, just 51 years old. He’s undoubtedly had tremendous success too, no matter where he’s been, particularly in maximizing results from programs that simply ought to have been better than they were (cough OSU, cough Xavier). His teams shoot well, play aggressive ball-pressure defense, and look to get up the floor, even though the offense is primarily a half-court one. That sounds like a good recipe for the grinding, physical SEC, where you have to mudwrestle with Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida and the like.

TL; DR Version: There are credible reports from several people around the program that Thad Matta is on campus today, and that he is the leading candidate to assume the head coaching position of the Alabama men’s basketball team. Perhaps less credible overall, there are additional rumors are that AD Greg Byrne is willing to accelerate the Coleman Coliseum renovation to secure the services of the right candidate, including Matta. And several #sauces have suggested that one of the issues down the stretch in 2018-2019, was that Johnson had lost his team. Compounding that problem was the Tide’s top target, Mountain Brook’s Trendon Watford, allegedly did not want to play for Johnson.

over hiring an asst just for getting a player.
Bucky may not be a great asst hire, but by all accounts it prob wouldn't be a bad one.
This isn't like the Michael Porter situation at Mizzou

Not mine but thought I'd share a comment someone said that gave me a good laugh.

So whats the point of your post?
If Bucky can do it then hire him even if Watford doesn't come with him.
I hope the standard for hiring is better than "we could probably do worse than this guy"

Who is Bucky? A Mountain Brook coach? Or an AAU coach?
I didn't think a school could sign a player after hiring their HS coach.
