Sorry to get off topic, but just wanted to post a quick PSA. Hope everyone can pay attention to the Governor’s race this year. We really haven’t had a competitive race for the state’s top office in over a decade and then it’s really been since 2002. I personally think our state suffers because of that.

Back to your regularly scheduled gumping….

Unfortunately I don’t really see a very good field. Ivey probably still the best of the bunch.

Blanchard’s commercials are incoherent. She’s an outsider who served as an ambassador for the previous 4 years. Nobody gets an ambassadorship by being outside the right rooms.

I will commend her because she’s the only one talking about a single coherent policy item but unfortunately I don’t think her plans for fixing schools are going to work. That’s a complicated subject for another day.

Tim James is playing for the cheap seats by acting like what is happening on Fox News is real life. His commercials are a great example of people’s idea of reality almost being entirely shaped by television and social media.

Ivey - and similarly Britt in the senate race - tried to place it down the middle but they’re discovering this probably ain’t a down-the-middle sort of time anymore. They’ve both been trying to “Trump Up” their ads lately.

My gut tells me they’re probably the politicians that might frick around and do the most good for the state in the pool but I worry that Alabama and other states like us have way too many people who rather express their grievances through their vote than try to actually advance the state.

IMO, more important is the Senate race.

It’s equally as important. Let’s be honest, every Senate candidate will probably cast their votes the same way. Ivey has a chance to be one of our longest serving Governors which is kind of sad because she hasn’t really had to earn that job. Would be nice to see her have to actually work to earn it.

The only candidate that seems to actually care about advancing the state is Lew Burdette.

Some senator candidates may have the political connections to continue the service Shelby’s done to make sure pork barrel is appropriately apportioned to our universities and major industries.

Britt is the only one I trust to fulfill the transactional relationship at the core of politics. The others are just self-aggrandizing blowhards.

Voting for Britt in the Senate race.

As for governor, a Republican not named Ivey or James TBD.

I'm throwing my hat in the ring. I will push for weed and gambling legalization, as well as prostitution. The worst a school does on my test, the less money they receive. Teachers have final say and responsibility in class. If parents don't like it then have kids test for a voucher.

I will push for block chain in government and reducing size of state government starting with hiring freezes and incremental layoffs. Abolishing income tax is another goal. I'm also pro immigrant and would travel to Armenia, India, Lebanon, and China to recruit the cream of the crop.

Also, I would be the first governor in us history to use the tenth amendment. Time to outlaw no knock police actions as well as asset seizures. At the same time, rapists shouldn't see the light of the day.

This. Shelby has done a good job of working the system to get good things for Alabama. Britt is the most likely to continue that. We don't need a do-nothing grandstander.

This is who I'm going with. MeeMaw's mask mandate went far too long, and she still hasn't taken a hard stance against school systems forcing masks on children. She also pushed back the 3rd grade reading level thing by a year, which will do no one any favors including the kids who pass due to this. It's true that mask mandates and school closures have caused some learning loss, but SHE is to blame for allowing that to happen. I'm living this nightmare of school closures and masks every day with my two youngest kids. She is by far the worst candidate, and she personally is responsible for the damage caused to the younger generations.

Are the Dems even running anyone? That's about the only way I'd vote for MeeMaw because every Dem governor has handled this even worse than she did.

They are all useless POS'.

While Shelby had a lot of respect in the Senate. He was a career politician that changed party's to maintain his position and continue to milk the citizens of this state in order to get paid! I hate a politician more than I do Auburn. They are Whale shite. It is the lowest thing on earth because it is what sits at the bottom of the ocean.

I won't vote for Britt, because she is being groomed in the typical RINO fashion. The GOP has sat back and allowed the Dems to cheat and manipulate the system, in order to elect and ruin the system of election. Our vote doesn't really count anymore and unless some people with balls stand up, and quick, our freedoms will continue to erode away and we will be no better off than Russia/China, or worse, some 3rd world country.

Off-Topic: Governor’s Race

There isn’t one.

Ivey polls as one of the most popular governors in the nation. She wins in a cakewalk.

I’ll just skip that race on my ballot. Kay will never get my vote because of her decision to devastate small businesses but the others are nothing but paper cutouts parroting national buzzwords. None talk about Alabama issues.

I’ll vote Britt in the senate race. As others have said, knowing how the system works is incredibly important to do that job effectively. Brooks has similar experience but he’s just too much of a blowhard for me to support when there’s a more palatable option. Durant may be a great guy, but he doesn’t have that experience. If he were running for the House or a state legislature office, sure, but a senator needs more on their resume than getting shot down or owning Mike Shula.

Ivey allowed mask mandate to be a local-level decision. Like the literal closest-to-the-metal political decision where citizens can exert the most force over said decision.

I guess this really highlights the crux of American conservatism. Small government when it serves their narrow interests. Big government when the majority will not serve their interest.

There's a small tyrant in all of us that screams for more control over the next person. HL Mencken predicted this a century ago.

None of the above should be an option, leaving the office unfilled until the next election.

The fact that Ivey may be the best option says a lot. Ugh

Ivey being the best option is a joke. I don't know who it is but it's not her. She's an embarrassment.

She refuses to debate and can't answer reporters questions. What a bargain.

The majority of voters in Alabama have never really been interested in advancing the state. It’s why we rank near the bottom in so many categories.
