How can boosters afford to pay millions a year and get no return? There's no way they can write the NIL money off as a business expense and if they do, the IRS should audit all there asses. Audit the players too lol

It’s coming. Tax issues and lawsuits when a players NIL is cut because he becomes a discipline problem.

People with net worths in the billions don't expect to see a return on the money they spend on hobbies.

Exactly right.

Bama is a national brand and Saban wants to take trips around the world. Maybe he can make some friends in Dubai. Pick is up some sponsors from those oil tycoons.

By the same token those people didn’t get rich by blowing money either….

They expect a return by product on the field. Once they get burnt a few times by players they have paid millions transferring or being lazy on the field or just not working out, they will become more stringent with their NIL deals. And I guarantee there will be tax problems for some player in the near future for not claiming income appropriately.

If Nick was using the everybody gets the same plan

5,000 per month for 85 cost 425,000

or 5,100,000 per year on the econ plan.

Sure, but we're not talking about the version of Jeff Bezos that just ran a website that sold books online. We're talking about the version of Jeff Bezos that is the head of a massive international retail conglomerate with a presence in practically every space. If anyone is expecting the market to simply correct itself on this they're going to be sorely disappointed. Economic principles fly out the window on the vanity projects of the obscenely wealthy. That fatass lumber salesman would consider it a good investment if he spends $25 million on Auburn football players and the only thing he gets back is a national championship because wins are the return they're after, not money.

Yes they can write it off as advertising as long as the player mentions their product.

The elephant in the room is the overall economy.

They do get a return. Being a mega-donor at a massive university has big perks.

I don’t have the means to be a mega-donor myself, but I control enough vendor contracts to know the game. Any time we go to market, you hear “I can get you this practice pass” or “This box access” etc.

It also gives your business first access to quality students who will likely become quality employees. The amount of 32+ ACT/3.8+ GPA engineering kids that went to Lockheed from my UA class was significant.

This is why any “Free market” discussion regarding college athletics is asinine. Regardless of how the budgets are separated, it’s near impossible to separate the athletics department from the perks of being tied a taxpayer-backed institution.

What happens when boosters pay a player and the coach wants to sit him for missing practice or a few other team infractions?

Can the player put pressure on the boosters to put pressure on the coach?

Outside of Texas and Texas A&m, most schools don't have boosters with 9 and 10 figure net worths. Most have boosters with 7 figures and a de 8 figure guys. Most of that net worth isn't even cash, it's real estate and other tangible assets

…you may have just started the “next wave” of NIL. You can bet if Deon Sanders sees your post, he’ll be the first to land in Dubai.

Arkansas has Walmart, Tysons and Jerry Jones for starters.
Florida should have some Billionaires. Oklahoma has oil money too. Vanderbilt should have several Billionaires, but they don’t give a crap for sports.
Rest of us are just foragers who can afford two or three elites a year.

These wealthy people can donate how ever much money they can through their favorite hobby to get themselves into a lower tax bracket to pay the same tax as a homeless man while actually being one of the richest people in the world.

Money is so funny man. Like making a business trust through an LLC and only taking 5% ownership in that company so the other 95% owners have to pay the tax you otherwise would.

Bingo! Not all these rich people give two shits about college football at all or in their state. Jerry Jones can't even buy Dallas a Superbowl, you think he gives a damn about Arkansas right now?

And Rane is the kind of guy that will do exactly that. He spent a shitload as a vanity project rebuilding the downtown of his dumpy little home town just so it would look like it did when he was a kid in the 40's and 50's.
