I think that's at least the spirit of what was intended.
For some reason most everyone has simply forgotten and/or ignored the fact that it's specifically not allowed for recruitment.
Yet the media, the players, and even the coaches openly discuss that it's a determining factor.

How confident are we in Byrnes?
He had a good hire in Oats but he also hired Rich Rod at Arizona.
I assume he is getting huge support from Saban.

I really hope it’s not Norvell. How he responded to the CFP decision goes completely against the current state of our program. If you want a winner, it should be DeBoer. Hard to argue against 104-12 regardless of where he coached. Offense would be humming.
Personally I think we need to branch out away from the Saban coaching tree. A coach from that tree will have too much pressure to be Saban again.
Give me DeBoer. Recruiting won’t be an issue with our facilities and NIL opportunities.

I think the whole "nobody wants to follow Saban" thing is being overblown.
When Dean Smith retired UNC top target was Roy Williams and they tried to get him to come home and turned it down as quickly as they offered. But he waited until the dust settled and finally took the UNC job.
It is not hard to understand for anyone not wanting to be Saban's replacement. The fans are crazy and the expectations are the highest due to Saban.
With that said any coach that does come in if they can keep the roster together they should make a 12 team playoff next season.

It was a great hire for Arizona, really.

I think it will be Norvell. Someone would have to stroke a huge check to get Lanning. And he has a good situation at Oregon. Norvell aint nothing but a winner.
Not happening. If you knew some of the stuff he got up to when he was in Memphis you wouldn't want him.

DeBoer would be good. But, Saban built a machine at Alabama. Would DeBoer know how to keep recruiting, practices, game scouting, etc. top notch?

How are we going from Lanning it is to Doboer and Norvell lol

Saban, Pete Carroll, and Bellicheck…all gone within 24hs of each other, crazy.

All I need to know about Norvell is that there were two teams on the field in Miami that were left out of the playoff. One was set to prove they were the best team in the country. The other quit. Coaches, players, everyone. Norvell is a fricking loser.

Rich Rod was a splash hire at a place like Arizona. It made sense but things don't always work out.
Getting Oats to Bama and creating the bball product we have now should be a pretty good indicator he gets it.
He also hired Mullen to Miss St...the best coach they've maybe ever had.

Because it's been 20 minutes and a coach hasn't been named so we gotta freak out.

I just got the word it’s Lanning. He’s flying back to tell his team today and coming back to Tuscaloosa tomorrow for it to be announced.
So he was in fact in Tuscaloosa last night?

No - that would be Mike Leach

I know you're not talking about this guy.

DeBoer did more with less. Washington isn’t a slouch program by any means. He has CFP experience. He out coached Sark and Lanning. I believe his record against top 25 is like 12-2. His resume speaks for itself.
I wouldn’t be mad if it’s Lanning but I’d prefer the coach that beat him multiple times and has a track record of winning.
At the end of the day we all care about winning. It’s nice to have a great recruiting class but winning games leads to trophies in the cupboard.

Your last paragraph is about recruiting, which, ironically, Kiffin isn't great at
Kiffin prior to coming to Ole Miss was very good at recruiting. Once he got to Ole Miss he adapted and started recruiting the portal because he knew he could not go against the pedgree of UA, UGA, and other top SEC programs for HS recruits.
What I like about Kiffin is we will not hold back and will as aggressive on the field as needed. Sometimes it may not work but he will try it.

Deboer just took the Washington Huskies to the national championship game in his second season. That would be a really good hire. He's won everywhere he's been. I just can't see Lanning now with that huge buyout.
