Because you ALWAYS have to get medical clearance. Medical decisions are independent of the coaching staff.

If the doctor says no, then a kid does not play. Period.

There is a distinct possibility you are correct.

so he was medically cleared to play last week but might not be this week even though he's a lot better off this week compared to last week . makes perfect sense

Maybe Tua's knee is getting checked medically everyday to ensure he's not digressing, having any increased swelling, inflamation, pain etc. If he's doing ok, he remains cleared to practice and play. That seems quite appropriate, imo.

One thing to consider is that it’s his front leg when he's passing. There’s a mental thing with QB’s and if they’re coming off an injured front leg. They can be scared of it getting hit as they step into a throw disrupting their concentration.

Exactly. This is why Tua was off vs Mizzou before he came out of the game.

This is why the coaches should let him rest. I'm honestly shocked at how someone as brilliant as Saban can be so utterly stupid sometimes. This is right up there with leaving Tua on the bench all of last year.

Tua at 100% is hell on wheels. Tua right now is a question mark, and by the way they're treating him, they seem content with letting him have his knee braced up the rest of the season so long as he doesn't miss a rep in practice.

I just absolutely don't get this decision

He was still good against Missouri. If we score like usual. Quickly tua probably won't be in long anyway.

Yeah he was good until he couldn't get up off the field. But he was also not as good as usual. Part of his game is being mobile and evading pass rush.

It would be better to use Tua in the second half if the game is still in question.
But honestly, if they're working him every day anyway, might as well play him. No point in running him around in practice and holding him out of the games

I’m not an insider, but I really don’t see Saban as a board games type guy.

If anything, maybe Monopoly. Because that game’s the shite.

If a passer efficiency total that was higher than the single season record is Tua not playing as good as usual, then we'll be just fine.

Why do some people think they are hiding a serious injury

I was just thinking the same thing. It's strange. Saban and Tua both say he is fine, but these clowns think they know more.

The word from Tua himself....

quote:

“I’m fine. I got to go out to practice today. I’m a lot better, actually, than I was last week after the Arkansas game. I mean, it looked bad on the field. I just re-tweaked it kind of. But we got some treatment after the game, following this morning leading up to practice today, so we’re a lot better. We’re much better.”

So I'll preface this by saying that I am not being a worrywort and I am not a member of the segment of the bama population that is constantly whining or complaining about shite.

That being said, we have had a history of not being entirely truthful with the media and fans in regards to playing through injury. Check out the end of this (crappy quality) interview with Barret Jones.

"Y'all weren't buying the footsprain thing?".

Then think of Belue not even being able to practice most of the season, Griffith considering early retirement due to a repetitive back injury, and Jonathan Allen's recent comments about D Payne, amongst many other examples.

I trust that Saban isn't going to risk ruining Tua's career over Tennessee, but we also don't have a reason to expect Saban to be entirely truthful or forthcoming when it comes to injuries.
