Alabama went through its first practice of Tennessee week Monday afternoon.

Here are some notes from what was a short media viewing period:

-- Tua Tagovailoa was practicing and participated in drills with the other quarterbacks, including a footwork drill. As has been the case, he had a brace on his injured right knee. "He's probably better this week than he was last week," Alabama coach Nick Saban said of Tagovailoa earlier Monday. "So we'll see how he does in practice and continue to evaluate. As long as the medical staff clears him, we'll keep working him to try to get him ready to play in the game."

-- DeVonta Smith, who is dealing with a hamstring injury, was at practice but wasn't participating in drills with the other wide receivers. He's considered questionable for the Crimson Tide's game against Tennessee on Saturday. "You never know how hamstring injuries are going to respond and how fast guys will be able to recover," Saban said. "At his position, probably have to be pretty full-speed to be able to play, so we'll have to play that one day-to-day."

-- Like with Smith, Henry Ruggs was at practice but didn't take part in drills with the other receivers, at least from what I saw. Ruggs left Saturday's game against Missouri with an injury but later re-entered the game.

-- Reserve tight end Kedrick James (high ankle sprain) is still out.

I hope we aren't delaying the inevitable.

I'll definitely trust Saban and the medical staff.

there is absolutely no reason at this point to think he has anything serious wrong with him

That depends on your definition of serious. A broken foot is serious but Barrett Jones played on one through at least the SECCG and the NC. There's definetely something serious with Tua, the question is just to what degree it will effect his ability and play time.

This staff hides injuries better than anything I’ve ever seen.

Kids definitely have talked about the mindset when you get injured and wanting to play through it and tough it out.

Hope this doesn’t effect Tua’s long term health by making something relatively minor into something more serious than it is right now

As long as the medical staff clears him,

I don’t get the last part....if he’s better, why do you need medical clearance?

He could always aggravate it between now and then.

If he's better, why is he wearing a knee brace? Why is he still limited?
He's not better. He's hurt. But can't have him miss a day of practice! He's gotta improve if we're gonna beat this juggernaut Tennessee squad.

Moronic. Utterly moronic. Tua could sit in a wheelchair from now until the Saturday we play LSU, and we'd be nothing but better off for it. Saban's playing checkers, not chess.

Why do some people think they are hiding a serious injury

Saban hides the severity of injuries. Anyone that watched him play Saturday could see he wasn't ok and I don't know how Saban can say he's better today than last week after what happened Saturday night. Just my opinion. I have no sauces

The media is only there for like 15 minutes of practice. Tua might leave practice for all we know after the media leaves.

Didn't Julio play the whole season with a broke hand?

Everything Nick Saban said to kick off Tennessee week (BamaOnLine)
quote:

"I’m not making any accusations because I don’t think it’s anybody here. But we have an outstanding medical staff here. We do MRIs on players. We know exactly what’s wrong with them. Never, ever has our medical staff put a player at any kind of risk relative to playing. I don’t think it’s good for people to make speculation about what injury a player has when we have probably as good a medical staff as anybody in the country when it comes to Dr. Cain, Dr. Andrews and their whole team of people. I don’t think it’s fair to the player or the program or our medical staff for people to speculate on what people’s injuries really are." (read more)
