If you stop giving people negative punishment for their actions you'll have a lawless society and team in this case.

The only way that would work is if there wasn’t a transfer portal. Players need to have to sign a 3 year contract so it gives the coach some kind of control. Imagine what NIL would look like if a player was suspended without the threat of transferring. If a player isn’t playing his name, image and likeness isn’t worth much. Or that’s the way it’s supposed to work.

I would have been more and most impressed if he suspended himself without a single coaches input! I understand emotions but there's a time and place for that....he embarrassed himself, teammates, coaches, the university, fans and family.

I don’t like it but I’m over it, He’s the coach. But he’s basically put his arse on the line that there will not be a repeat of anything like this by any player, ever. He owns that now. I hope it works out.

Man, i just watched some extended highlights from the game on SECN, and this all would be easier to stomach if he hadnt have played such a shitty game. Just low effort, avoiding contact, timid. Maybe he is hurt or something? Idk it was bizarre. He wasn't the only one obviously. The more replays i see the more I think that most of blame should be on the players. Obviously it rests on the coaches to have them ready, but damn.

I think they thought they were going to show up and Vanderbilt was going to fold as usual. I've been downvoted to hell in various posts for saying this but I don't care, I believe it, while Vanderbilt doesn't have the talent we do, they do something that's hard to prepare for and they have a QB who runs it effectively and especially if your head ain't in the game they can be problematic to play even for a bunch of 5 stars.

Coaches can prepare a team, but if the players are convinced they've got it won just by stepping on the field because of their talent, before playing 4 quarters, that ain't worth a toot.

I'm hoping this was an attention-getter and a mind-focuser.

And we really need to go out and dominate somebody for 4 quarters.

The hesitancy on defense I noticed all day is, indeed, indicative of players that had been coached but were not really prepared. They were there but not confident about it so they'd get rolled over or miss a tackle.

And now we hear our guys were acting like classless asses at the coin toss...our captains.

So embarrassing. Run your mouth...and then get your arse whipped. Not exactly the Bama standard.

For those of you advocating for Malachi Moore's suspension, please remember that Rolando McClain pushed an official in anger after a ticky-tack penalty gave Virginia Tech a crucial first down in our 2009 match up in Atlanta. He, too, was a captain on that team and Saban didn't suspend him for the game against Florida International the following week.

Given McClain's track record since, I'm not sure if there's anything positive to be learned from this example

Good enough for me..I’m not in the locker room but I’ve been in a good many I during my playing and coaching days.

I’ll trust Coach Deboer.. I’ll cheer for Malachi.

The rest of yall can STFU

I was more on the "let's see how Moore reacts to his initial discipline and go from there" camp. He clearly had cooled off and realized he'd made an arse of himself, team, and school by the time he reached the locker room. My only arm-chair coaching I have now is that I hope he reached out to Vanderbilt to apologize for his dirty actions against their quarterback. I can't fault him for not doing that in a message really directed to Alabama fans.

As many have pointed out, Saban didn't suspend many players who got out of line in the past. That doesn't mean there wasn't punishment.

Despite his legal troubles in the years since that season, he went on to become a consensus 1st Team All-American, Butkus Award winner, and first round draft pick. Plus he was instrumental in winning us a national championship that year to boot. Those are all positives for the program as far as I'm concerned.

The Vandy QB said that Milroe, Booker, Moore and Lawson were cussing and talking trash at the coin toss. He said they wouldn’t shake their hands after Bama won the toss and deferred the kick.

That is very disappointing, if true.

Maybe somebody needs to ask these guys in an interview how it feels to show such classlessness and then get your shite pushed in by Vanderbilt?

This is just pathetic. Classless to do it in the first place; pathetic once the people you were jawing at then proceed to put belt to arse.

I miss crazy linebackers like him, Rueben Foster, and the likes. That was pinnacle linebacker play; in my lifetime anyway. They may be a bit off, but they struck fear in opposing players. We have dudes that look like the part walking off the bus, and shy from contact on the field. One of my best friends was roommates with Ro in cowboys training camp and said he one of the best dudes he has ever known, but certifiably a crazy person.

Sounds like we have a complete lack of discipline and class on this team.

That’s one of my main concerns. It seems indicative of a larger problem. NIL and the transfer portal are main factors in this type of thing, and Coach Saban left because of some of these things. I talked to people that know him, and although he had talked to Greg Byrne about having a plan in place for when he retired, it’s my understanding that Coach Saban originally planned to coach several more years. As a fan, I am highly frustrated at what Congress and the court systems have done to college athletics, especially college football.

The only path forward to remotely getting a semblance of it back under control is to have a mandatory salary cap in place, with contracts for the players, just as the NFL does. That way, all teams will only have a certain amount of money to spend on players each year, and there will be set stipulations for the players, including regarding their conduct on and off the field. However, as is, I have no idea how we can get to that point of order in college athletics again.
