Legalize it for all I care. But if you know it's against the rules, and you're getting your college paid for in part to follow those rules, it's not a tough decision to make.

If there was a rule that said, "All scholarship athletes are prohibited to wear blue shirts", guess what? I wouldn't wear a blue shirt. As long as the rule wasn't violating my constitutional rights, I'd play along no matter how silly I thought the rule was.

Some of y'all need to get out more.

College kids getting arrested for weed may not be a character issue, but it is a career limiting issue.

As more states legalize, it may change but right now for many employers it creates a straight path for your application. It goes right from the HR person's hand to the trash can.

Depends on the circumstances. Minor possession are misdemeanors, and most will qualify for first time offender status, so it doesn't go on their record. So it's not even a career limiting issue. I've even seen 2nd and 3rd time offenders not have it end up on their record. Even in the barbaric state of Alabama the courts don't want to ruin a college kid's career over simple marijuana possession.

The worst thing Major will face is an arse chewing from Saban.

I don't disagree with any of that but there are no guarantees.

It is a risk I wouldn't take at that age and I wish kids would think about these things, but that's part of the growing up process.

Well until they do, it's illegal. The kids know this yet possess it anyway knowing it is wrong. This is a character issue, one that could negatively influence their life if they chose to keep going with it.

Regardless of how we feel about it being legalized, it isn't.

It's not a character issue, it's a state with stupid fricking laws issue.

If anyone has character issues it's the people who punish and ruin the lives of people over it.

Where is it actually against the rules?

This is about state law and it's that part that gets him in trouble. We don't see players getting in trouble for it other than when they get caught by the cops. If this was Colorado, we'd never hear about it.

Yup. There are at least 10 states now where this wouldn't have been an issue in the slightest bit. Alabama's probably one of the most arse-backwards states in the country on Marijuana . I feel bad for our college kids who risk jail time for smoking a little ganj

I'm legal where I live and although I can live anywhere in the country due to my job I refuse to move back home as long as the state wants to put me in prison over it.

I grew up with that risk, paid that price once already in fact, and it's not something I will ever subject myself to again.

People need to start blaming the system instead of the victims.

Ok it's against the rules, but character issue?

Gtfo.

It's this type of thinking that blows my mind.

If you're a normal person, you'd share a beer with this kid over a fire at a hunting camp, and enjoy your time.

Does that mean this kid has character issues?

Foh.

It is becoming more and more legalized. But it is illegal in Alabama and absolutely a stupid practice. The HR guy at a good company looks at that and starts to think, "This guy is not quite what we want."

The HR guy at a good company in California has an eighth of medical cannabis on his coffee table and dgaf. He'd probably apologize to the guy for having to live in a moronic state like Alabama

Agree to disagree, they are adults and need to act like it. This isn’t LSU this is Bama.
