For keeping our team in the game in multiple tough situations. For the second year in a row against USF the offense went to shite and the defense saved the day. Big props to that unit. They have some issues to clean up for sure but they saved our asses last night with the fiasco that was going on on the other side of the ball.

Young DBs need more reps. Some WRs got wide open but those are things that can be fixed. Didn’t like our inability to defend the read option at times but again things that can be fixed. Overall a great effort. Especially since they had to be counted on in a close game.

Last night was good practice for what we will see against Tennessee, Missouri and Oklahoma. Knowing the perfectionist that Wommack is I’m sure that he will go back and make corrections.

I am hoping that the USF staff spent spring and summer working on their plan for beating The Tide,

Instead of 5 days.

LOL

Some of those happened because USF was pulling substitution hijinks. At the end of their deep passes, the WR would go off at the far end, while a new WR trotted out and lined up. Refs, never saw it, and never allowed us to substitute.

They're in the AAC. Prepping for Bama all summer would prep them for literally anyone else they will play.

We would’ve been in trouble last night had they had a competent QB.

That defense was a breath of fresh air. I haven't seen a defense like that since 2017. I was skeptical on his this new scheme would work and too a certain extent I still am, but I can't help but admire the relentlessness of this defense and the way the players adapted to it so seamlessly. By next year this defense will be elite

Not true whatsoever the defense was in great positions for most of the night. I still feel this defense has the knack to play up to their competition which I hate but hopefully everything will get resolved after this game.

Only thing I saw on defense that needs to be cleared up is clogging run lanes. On multiple plays there was too much space for the RB to run through.

The one touchdown was after being left on a short field after a turnover too. Amazing how well they held up last night considering the chaos occurring with the offense. Big props to the defense.

Yeah, I’m a bit concerned with Wideouts being 5 yards behind our defense a few times.

A good SEC QB doesn’t miss those shots.

Gotta fix that ASAP

Agreed. I think that we all realized that the secondary would have some growing pains early in the season with so many new players. Hopefully we can get through this next game unscathed and get into the bye week to regroup.

I'm not sold on Wommack yet. We'll see once we face a competent offense.

However, I can give credit to our front 6/7 - they're doing a great job.

Bama has given up 1 TD in 2 games and is ranked #6 in yards per play.

The teams ranked ahead of Bama have all played garbage teams whereas Bama played 2 games that won bowl games last year. Not exactly a murderers row, but not slouches either.

And there is the big difference between a 1 gap and a 2 gap defensive front. The DL cut thru 1 gap. the Mike has to read the RB and meet hime in the middle of the LoS chaos.

If the DL gets washed down the line, the gap left is too large for the LB to fill. If the LB reads the wrong gap or does not attack the LoS, a cutback gap opens.
