The second part is a big “IF”. Not saying he can’t do it, but I’d be surprised if he can manage the mental side of the game/position at such an early point in his career

20 years ago, I would agree with you. Nowadays, a lot these guys come in ready to go.

What’s the TLDR version?

The TLDR is that Based Crimson thinks our coaches are stupid enough to start a true freshman with talent over a 5th year senior who knows the system and has his own talent.

Seriously.

When was the last time a true freshman led a team from start to finish and won the national championship??

It's going to be Ty and if Ty struggles then we're blessed to have Keelon behind him.

We still see Ty Simpson panicking in the face of pressure. He still trips over his own linemen. He just doesn't have the command, poise, and presence you'd expect from a 5th year player.

Impossible.

According to this sub, he's Tom Brady 2.0 and the only reason he didn't get the nod over Milroe (twice, under two completely different staffs) was because the entire offense threatened to walk if anyone other than Milroe was named starter, all the visible frustration they showed with their choice (not to mention sacrificing their own personal stats) be damned... Milroe was the team choice!!!1

Same dude who said Tyler Buchner was 'Bama's best chance for success in 2023.

Yeah. Let's all take his opinions seriously.

I watched KR in the UA all american. Talent is there but no where near playing and winning against tough well coached teams. 90% talent is above the shoulders. Why put pressure on him by anointing him a starter. The tomato is still not ripe. Give it time.

Trevor Lawrence split time with Kelly Bryant in early games in 2018. It’s very rare.

Also Clemson had the luxury of 10-3 Syracuse being the hardest conference game they’d play and could keep the training wheels on the young gun. We cannot

That 2018 Clemson team still pisses me off. They had the easiest freaking schedule on earth and all the tape in the world on us.

We've got Grubb and DeBoer whose offense relies on big plays in the passing game like Nate Oats relies on the 3.

Tua or Bryce Young

So zero NCs will be won

Listen those were great players but if you look at Bama's championships...they were always won with the "game manager" type QBs

Barker
Mcelroy
Mccarron
Coker
Hurts(He was the starter that year)
Jones

All good players...but none that were described as OP described Russell as being generational talents as freshmen(like Tua and BY were)

Beyond Bama you have Stetson Bennett(x2, Will Howard, JJ McCarthy,

Even Joe Burrow wasnt considered a cant miss prospect as a freshman.

I think the main point is that teams with great QBs tend to put too much of their weight on his shoulders to win games.

Jones

In what world was Mac a game manager? He threw for 4500 yards and 41 TDs. He averaged MORE ypg than Bryce during his Heisman year. Even Bennett wasn’t the game manager in 2022 like he was in 2021. He had over 4300 yards and 37 TDs.

You know something all those QBs outside of Mac also had? Even the Stetson Bennett, Will Howard, and JJ McCarthy? ELITE defenses. Many of them also had ELITE OLs. Plus consistently disciplined teams that don’t rack up 10 penalties a game

Hurts(He was the starter that year)

Him playing like a game manager would’ve cost Bama the national title if not for Tua.

It's also weird that some people think Ty is a "game manager."

Most fan bases are happy with that, think it’s one of the positives of having an elite quarterback.

There are some in our fan base who still get a bug in their BVDs if one player “gets above his raisin’” so to speak and isn’t just one cog on the team, no more or less important than any other cog because that has always been “the Bama tradition.”
