One of the reasons I like Oats is that he communicates actual information when he talks. He's not going to spout off a bunch of useless coach speak. That doesn't mean he won't be diplomatic, but it makes for an interesting presser at least.

But Saban was the exception. Who remembers any great quotes from Ryan Day besides bitching about Lou Holtz?

If Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy ...

Seriously, if Grubb comes to Tuscaloosa, he comes to Tuscaloosa. If he doesn't, he doesn't. I'm not going to obsess over it. I don't buy into the cult of the all-powerful offensive coordinator and play caller.

It's now become a "thing" that his wife, him, or both of them don't want to be in Tuscaloosa so I don't want them anywhere near the place. It's become such a thing that if he does decide to come I'm not sure the type of welcome he'd get from the fans and people in the community. It's no secret they don't want to be in the south.

I’m betting that he wants to be in the NFL more than anything. Although he sure didn’t look like he was cut out for it last year.

I don't think he's an NFL "fit". I think he is better suited for the college game but my guess is he wants in the NFL so he doesn't have to bother with the recruiting, NIL and transfer BS.

right or wrong, i look at sheriden and see a similar situation to dabol and hurts vs dabol and tua. not saying we have another tua in the qb room. but the difference in the offense was night and day. hopefully that will be the case with sheriden when he gets a competent qb. lets be honest here. everyone on the college football planet knows if it wasnt for milroe's legs, he would've never played a single down of sec football at qb

The on field results from the Kiffin and Sark years are coincidence ?

What ?

You Don't buy into coordinators and playcallers ?

In this era of semi pro ball the difference between titles and missing the playoffs all together will be:

1. QB play
2. Who has the best playcallers / coaches / development team

The Jimmy's and Joe's of the top 3-5 teams will be nearly identical, but the best QB / playcaller combo will separate from the pack and win the trophy. IMO

*edit- If you don't have a stud at QB the season is over before it begins. Nobody will navigate a 12 team playoff with a milroe.

Valid points, but sometimes people getting all hot and bothered about offensive play callers borders on becoming cults of personality.

I just hate cults of personality on all levels, in sports and everything else.

YMMV.

The fact that CKD seems content to run it back with Nick Sheridan after how disastrous our offense was in the second half of the season

The problem was definitely Sheridan, who routinely called plays with DeBoer's scheme that left guys wide open pretty much every snap, and not the QB who couldn't see the wide open receiver, and also averaged turning the ball over 4 times a game to end the year.

Come on man.

Will Howard is not exactly what I'd call a stud.

We just need someone to distribute the ball to the WR's on time and be able to handle protection at the line and get us in and out of bad plays. If we could just get a "Jake Coker" season out of Simpson, we'd win ten games just by that.

Also, imagine a world where the QB doesn't steal carries from our stable of RB's, and actually makes the correct read handing it off at the right time. I swear Milroe just flipped a coin in his head on whether he kept or not, sending himself or the RB into a wall of defenders while the other option had a wide opening running lane. He rarely got it right.

I stopped watching the pressers mid season. It was clear he was never going to say anything worth hearing.

People that spin everything instead of just speaking the truth... I don't respect that, and frankly dislike anyone that operates like that. Comes across weak and disingenuous.

I gotta say, I couldn't give 2 shits about routine press conferences from coaches either way.

4k yards passing, 35 TD's

6'4" 235#

Big arm, usually doesn't make any game crippling mental mistakes. Led OSU to a title...

JJ McCarthy won it last year by being an experienced game manager that didn't give any games away, and made enough plays with his arm and legs to get Michigan to the natty.

I've always thought AJ McCarron has been undervalued by our fanbase because he couldn't run like Hurts, or throw like Tua, but what he brought to the table was a winning formula that I would categorize as a "stud" at the collegiate level.

You dont have to be the first pick in the nfl draft at QB to be a stud ballplayer.

I will say this about DeBoer, he is the undisputed master of putting together a lot of words that connect to one another grammatically and form proper English sentences but that convey no actual information.

I agree, I like DeBoer but someone needs to tell him...brevity is the soul of wit
