The William V. Campbell, formerly the Vincent dePaul Draddy Trophy, is awarded by the National Football Foundation to the American college football player with the best combination of academics, community service, and on-field performance. It is considered by many to be the "Academic Heisman" and nicknamed as such.

Can we present this as a parting gift?

The award goes to the type of player who is ready for the NFL.

Say what you want about rumors but he’s been a good representative of the university as a player by and large in terms of class.

Hmm. Didn’t see that in this thread. Kid was a limited player who multiple coaches determined was the best to start. He played good and bad. Brought Bama some good wins and bad. Good moments and bad. Never got in any trouble off the field, represented the school pretty well. No reason to hate him. Happy for his successes, hope he moves on and does well.

Good for him! Despite up and down play, he's represented our university well.

I like Milroe...I don't like his inconsistency. I can see why he'd be popular in the lockeroom though...but it should have never been a popularity "who wins the team" situation...that was on Saban. I wish Milroe all the best.

I don’t hate the guy. He’s driven me crazy with his inconsistency and his lack of progress on the field, and he cost the college football team I support some games, but he’s done no personal harm to me or my family and he also won us some games. I’m happy he won this award and I hope he has a nice career and life when he’s no longer wearing Crimson, and I hope that point was reached on Nov. 30.

His off-the-field stuff must have been extraordinary. It's hard to imagine there not being another player anywhere who played better than Milroe while exhibiting similar off-field traits.

You'd think with high academics he'd be able to read a defense better, know when to scramble, etc.

He won an award that indicates he actually took the student part of student-athlete seriously. He may never be the QB he ought to be given the amount of playing time he's received but winning this award is commendable.

Yeah, that's definitely how I wouldn't describe the whole LANK movement.

It's true. He's terrible at making decisions.

"Never got into any trouble off the field". That line and attitude reminds me of something Chris Rock said in one of stand up routines years ago.

"Nowadays, people want to brag about stuff like:

I stay out of jail!

I take care of my kids!

I pay my bills!"

Never getting into trouble off the field shouldn't be something that's out of the ordinary and should not be celebrated as some kind of accomplishment like you've climbed Mount Everest.
