Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson

These are the QB's that DeBoer was left with. DeBoer deserves the criticism for being stubborn and sticking with these guys when it is as clear as day they are killing the team, but the ball was really dropped with Saban leaving these two atrocious qb's for the next head coach.
If Simpson is the starting qb next season, then DeBoer is gonna get everything that is coming his way. As of right now, DeBoer definitely deserves the criticism for not pulling Ty, but we still have not seen him with his own recruited guy that fits his scheme. He doesn't deserve a pass for what's happened this season, but I'm willing to be a little patient to see him with his own guy (hopefully next season, or his job is on the line).

DeBoer is likely here 5 years. And rightfully so. But yeah today was embarrassing.

Well said, BUT there’s no excuse for not sitting Simpson for some series over the past 5-6 weeks when games started going south. Just try to spark the team, let TS clear his mind (if possible), and hopefully get on track.
Simpson got the talk, but he ain’t got the walk lately, but some of that is on the OL, RB, and OC.

these two atrocious qb's
Watching Ty struggle this year, I realize I was probably too hard on Milroe last year. Ty is a better QB, but they were both hampered by OC and OL significantly.

Ty is a better QB but struggles with consistency and accuracy.
Milroe offense was better from a scoring perspective because his deep ball accuracy and running ability.
Kind of funny how it played out.
Ty just couldn't hit the deep ball even against lesser teams

Tommy Rees deserves the Nobel Prize for winning the SEC and being a play away from a NC appearance with Jalen Milroe.
It was clear after that A&M game in 2022 that Milroe really wasn’t a top tier QB and that we needed a portal QB. The big question coming into this year was what would we expect from the guy who never beat out Milroe.

Did you watch the South Florida game in 2023? Different line and Ty looked as bad then as he did today. No change.
Same with Milroe in his first start in 2022. His stats from that game mirrored his last start against Michigan.
These are two subpar quarterbacks that would have stunk it up if they had the 2020 line blocking for them. I know we don't like shitting on players around here but these two dudes had no business starting for us.

The interception Ty threw was a late throw, but it was also a coverage read that you don’t normally see in college players to begin with because they’re undeveloped. He made the right read but hesitated half a second with a pump, which caused the miss.
It’s not a simple throw, but there’s a clear difference between Milroe’s passing capabilities and Simpson’s, banged up or not

Your post is atrocious.
Milroe was really bad, but Saban still won the SEC and was pretty close to winning the national title with him.
Simpson isn’t atrocious, and even if he was, him playing would be on DeBoer for not bringing in a transfer QB like every team does now.
Do you think Russell and Mack are also atrocious?
If so, why did DeBoer get those guys? If not, why aren’t they playing if Simpson is atrocious?

How come both QBs were (at one point in their seasons) projected first round picks and Heisman finalists…. And then totally tank.
Why the QB regression two years in a row?

Deboer does need to get his QB there for sure. This is year 2. He has keelon on roster with a year in the program. Tell ty thanks for everything and wish him luck. Let keelon and Austin battle it out. I would hopefully try to grab a couple OL in the portal. Fire the OL coach. That would be a good start on next year.
Grubb to me gets a pass. When your OL are like swinging gates and your QB has happy feet and can't make simple throws I'm not sure what he can do.

Milroe was never a projected first rounder. Simpson still is one.
Random bloggers put Milroe as first on mocks after Georgia because “physicals”. Not because of play. His glaring issues were never going to have him near the first.

I wouldn’t go that far! I mean both qb’s as far as I know will be drafted by the NFL and I don’t think the NFL would waste their time and picks on subpar products

Oh yeah, that USF game when our OL effort was horrible even by our standards?
Maybe we’ll learn our lesson next year if our savior Keelon struggles because of OL and playcalling? Nah, we’ll just say he’s garbage too and clamor for a new savior.
quote:You’re completely ignoring countless NFL throws Ty has made this season. Yes the kid is struggling right now and our system depends on him being excellent, but he’s not unimproved and def not atrocious.
No change

Any coach with half a brain could see that Ty has been playing
"stressed out" for a number of weeks. If you look at video of him earlier this years and video of him the last 5-6 games, he looks like a different player. After the second series a change should have been made.

He’s not playing “stressed out”. He’s playing with a subpar run game and protection, which means everything basically hyper focuses on him from an execution standpoint. Teams dial up everything towards him, pinning ears back every down and going coverage heavy.
Any quarterback in that situation is going to struggle or be subpar. Whether it be at the college or NFL level. The bang up doesn’t help, but the offense is reliant not just executing but being in a position to execute in the first place.
Everyone’s hyper focusing on Simpson and not realizing it doesn’t change with Mack or Russell, it potentially gets worse. At the end of the day swapping any of those three out doesn’t resolve the issues that will plague any QB in the system

Not unless he fires multiple assistants on his staff.
So many posters seem to think that fixing the QB situation will magically transform this team into being excellent.
It won't.
When last night gets added to the season total, Alabama will drop to #116 in the country in rushing YPG and #119 in YPC.
This running game is literally the worst in the history of the Alabama football program. Even Mike Shula's running game, running behind the legendary Chris Capps, was significantly better. Many of us would be fired if we were as incompetent and unproductive at our jobs.
Yes, the QB situation must be fixed. But the entire running game needs to be blown up and reconstructed. For starters, every coach associated with the running game needs to be fired. And yes, that includes strength and conditioning. The only people our OL can impose their will on are their girlfriends. Maybe. Then after firing the coaches, shop the portal. Every position...every position...that impacts the running game should be up for grabs.
Special teams must be fixed also. But start with the running game.

Milroe wasn't his fault, although I would have played someone else at times last year.
This year is on DeBoer.
