Its piss poor coaching if players who are in your program for 4 years dont know the ins and outs of everything you're doing.

Cubelic has talked about this a lot. He says that there is an epidemic in cfb right now with coaches overcomplicating schemes and whatnot for the players, and not just letting players play football. Says its driving him crazy.

Actually read this earlier today, from AL.com:

"Proctor has allowed five sacks, 15 quarterback pressures and committed four penalties. Yet, since the split (with Pritchett) started against the Rebels, Proctor has managed three of his four best single-game grades. Proctor has conceded just a sack and five hurries in that timeframe."

---

I have an easier time dealing with Proctor and Pritchett struggling than I do McLaughlin consistently committing snap infractions or misfiring on his snaps, or certainly Dalcourt not getting the job done.

Also seems that last Saturday McLaughlin changed to a dead ball snap as opposed to a spiral snap, and his snaps were much better.

The second half of the A&M game was solid in pass protection. There is hope.

With the way the rest of the team is playing, good oline play could get them to the playoffs.

Our offensive players should be able to identify blitzes and call protections. It aint rocket science. The RBs have been around long enough that they should know where to be.

Those kind of things come with experience. Just note that of the 133 Bowl Subdivision teams we have the 6th youngest roster. This is a very inexperienced team and they’ve been showing it. They’ve also incrementally improved each week, who knows what the ceiling is right now for the line.

Some of those guys have played a lot of football. Jase, Roydell, Seth, Latham, Booker. They've been through this shite. Everyone had professor Bryce Young to save their arse last year. But there is no acceptable reason why a senior who has been here his whole career doesnt know every protection.

You can't fix fat and slow during the season.

But you can fix knowing who to block. You can fix presnap penalties.

Some of those things have gotten better, some have not. Bama had a bunch of penalties at TAMU b/c their line shifted after the protection was called and they didn't handle it well.

Yes they can improve.

I’d like to hear from Twisted on this.

At this point 7 games in, no. They are what they are. Get someone in to help Reese scheme for that weakness if need be.

If we want to look on the bright side, most all of the problems today came from one position. That is an improvement from having snap problems, false starts, holds, etc.

Mostly we just had two different LTs get their asses kicked by #40.

The biggest problem and the least correctable is Milroe. I heaped praise on him for his second half performance last week. He played terrible in the second half today. He is an enigma. The passes the receivers touched in the second half were high or behind them. They did drop one, which was not going to be a first down on 3rd down. Milroe made one play in the second half which was a completion for a first down late. It was small miracle. Game remined me of the 2010 collapse against Auburn. I blamed that lose on McElroy because he could not complete a 10 yard pass to wide open receivers when they loaded the box. At least they were a good team, Arkansas not so much.

74 is not likely to improve much before cutting some weight in January, February, and March. For what is likely the first time in his life, he is not able to overpower the guy he is facing each week. He does OK in a straight power game against a guy who cannot convert power to speed on the edge. Today #40 put him on his heels then shoved him any direection he wanted to. Push inside then bend around him for an egde rush. Step outside, push him out and cross over with power to the inside.

aTm DL was young, they did not have the power to speed game on the edge. They did not have the bend to push around 74. Ms State ... he was able to drive block. Today, 74 needed to be a true LT. He is not ready for that.

The rest of the season, Bama needs to have a TE or HB protecting the edge for 74. Without that help, he will be dead meat against anyone with good power to speed skills. If 74 needs to kick slide, he does not have the lateral mobility and strength to still protect against an inside bull rush.

Yup, yup, going to need to give 74 (or 57) help.
