This is what pissed me off the most about the Downs situation. I don't believe for a second that Ohio St gave him significantly more money than Alabama was offering to stay. The new staff has certainly proved they can evaluate & build up talent in the secondary. Bottom line, Downs is a pussy turncoat who ran at the first sign of adversity to the path of least resistance.

“Better opportunity”. Sounds like you need to go to Columbus with him.
I was born in Tuscaloosa, am a second generation Bama grad, and was a walk-on for four years. Few here can say the same.
But I also coached for 20 years and know what it’s like to have skin in the game from a financial and opportunity standpoint. The game becomes a lot less personal.

Dude grew up 30 miles from UGA and left his home state. You shouldn’t be surprised when he leaves a school he had been at for only a year, especially when the coach who recruited him retires.
Programs recruit mercenaries and then fans cry when they do mercenary things.

Will Anderson grew up in Georgia and I can guarantee you he’d have stayed. Most of the players on the team that stayed were out of state recruits. It meant something to them to stay for their teammates and help build the next thing.
Not Downs though. Just hop on the next easy train. Soft.

He won a natty at Ohio State and would not have at Alabama. Our problems were something one great safety wasn’t solving. frick em but he made the best decision for him.

What does a championship really mean if you just hop around to the easiest place to get it? A championship is supposed to be special because you commit to a place with your recruiting class and you work through the obstacles and overcome and win. Durant/LeBron championships are hollow.
I say he should forego the NFL draft and sign up for pop warner. Wouldn’t want it to be too tough on him.

If I remember correctly, you was all for NIL and players having the right to hit the portal to better their financial future.
All this hate towards Downs is whining to the extreme like a spoilt brat. I don’t believe he’s ever said one negative thing about Bama.
But now he’s lowdown to the core because he has no loyalty to Bama and stab his teammates in the back by leaving.
Grow the frick up. Downs made a grown man decision like most men do when it come to financial gains. You was all for players making the dollars but I get it, Downs hurt your little feelings and you’re crying about it

I feel you but if we could have exploited Gibbs better and we rode him to a natty in 2022, I would not have complained. Damn near rode Bryce to Jamo to a natty the year prior. I have been a Heat follower since Wade years and I never pondered too much about James adding two more nba finals to the trophy case. I know the players aren’t pondering that much when they go look at their trophy room.

I hope against hope you aren’t as stupid in real life as you are on here, but deep down inside I sadly know that you are and people like you walk among us.

I hope he breaks a limb so badly he’s out of football completely.

I guess that’s something for him to think about while polishing the ring he wouldn’t have if he hadn’t left for OSU.

Saw an article yesterday about the NFL combine that had everyone shaking their head at why Ohio St didnt win everything this year as opposed to winning nothing. Their talent level was off the charts. They cannot coach the talent.

Sounds like you want to polish something for him as well.

They beat up on the MAC schools non conference and then the Rutgers, Purdues & Marylands of the BIG before ever having to exert themselves. With the exception of Texas, and they didn't do much that game, they lose everytime they face a team with near equal talent.

No, I have a ‘99 SEC championship ring of my own that I can polish from time to time.
Some people have the gumption to actually participate in college football instead of sitting in the stands or on the couch calling All-American players pussies.

Congrats on getting a ring for guarding the Gatorade.

I have worn the Crimson and White. Something most people here know nothing about.
You seem to think all these players should be so loyal to Alabama. So what have you done for the Tide? You could have been a Rudy type and gone out there and got your arse knocked off to help the team prepare. Were you not good enough or tough enough to even do that? Were other circumstances in your life at the time, gasp, more important to your future and you chose to pursue other avenues?
Caleb Downs, 2x All-American and national champion, called a pussy by some fan on the internet because he left his favorite football team and hurt his feelings.

Edit: Deleting my comment. I’m not going back and forth being negative with people. Congrats on your SEC ring.
I don’t respect Downs or his decision and you can agree with it or not IDGAF and I don’t have to justify it to you. Have a nice day.

I really think Hurts didn’t fit with Daboll. He played well as a Freshman and a Junior in relief and when Tua was hurt.
I think that year with Daboll messed up his growth at Alabama because he looked great every other year.
I wouldn't say that he hurt his development, some of the best he ever looked at Bama was when he came in for Tua. His Freshman year he was very limited, but we had one of the best defenses in college football over the past 25 years that season. If he was less limited we likely have another title. His completion percentage was 60-62% his first couple years and his year with Daboll it was 72% with a higher TD percentage and more yards per attempt.
Very odd thing to say about someone who is a Superbowl MVP, but some of his same tendencies and issues from back then are still there today. It's just that the Eagles are one of the few teams that has built their team around limited reliance on the QB.
In the end, I think it was much more of Tua was great at what we were doing offensively at that time. Likely the best in college football. It wasn't that Jalen wasn't developed or that he struggled under Daboll, it's that the only guy in college football that could run our offense better was his teammate.

And Downs doesn’t have to justify his decisions to anyone either. Calling one of the best players in CFB a “pussy” for making a life decision that’s best for himself is wrong.
Downs may have done all the same things, at least individually, if he had stayed at Bama. But these guys have generational wealth hanging in the balance in delicate bodies that have a short shelf life. They need to make good decisions for themselves to make money and showcase their talent - wherever that may be.
