I formation

Offense showed this look for the first time i rememeber this season. Could this be a new wrinkle? Not expecting it to turn us into a great running team, but it might be something.
Not sure how it fits with the scheme they are running. But it is a formation that allows for a lot of power and counters, and i know they like that.
Who we put in the fullback position is another question. Ty seems like he is comfortable under center. But we dont have a Robbie Oustz type guy on the roster (that i know of).
Any thoughts of this? Will we see it again? Who is our best option at Fullback?

I love this look. I think it could be an excellent way to close out games if we can get it flowing.

looked more like a, lets throw this against the wall to see if it sticks. iirc, it got the same results as the other 30 run plays up the middle or anywhere for that matter.

I think our best chance of being a good running offense is to start using fewer zone scheme concepts and more gap/man scheme concepts. We've got big dudes at OT and OG. Start making the run game more about the OL having an assignment where it is their job to do a specific block for a run going to a predefined gap. This is the best fit for Hill who just wants to ram rod his way through the defense. It also may keep Jam for being a toe-tapping dancer in the backfield.

Maybe also run from 3 and 4 WR sets so the defense can't sit on the run.

Exactly.
The staff is leaving no stone unturned trying to run the football.
They see what we all see so it’s been changing personnel, rotating running backs and doing everything imaginable from a scheme standpoint with trick plays to keep defenses on their toes with trick plays to open things up.
It just isn’t in the cards with this group.
Only way is to start clicking with the deep passing game to force defenses out of the box.
I’m mentally preparing for OU the way I would for a trip to the dentist because it’s going to be painful to watch unless the vertical passing game opens up.

My guess, the I is a wrinkle they started working on in the off week. Riley and Dear are classic I-Backs without the body mass to be good single set backs at this point. What they need is a FB blocker to follow and cut off of. Dear appears to have the best "press the hole" capability.
If Danny Lewis is ready to go, I think he may be the best FB option with Cuevas being the next best option. Peyton Fox looks like he could be a good choice as well. With Cuevas/Lewis we could shift from a standard set to an I set on the fly. Cuevas/Lewis could also help offset the pass-pro issues that come with Riley/Dear.
Cuevas, Lewis, and Dear at the same time could be a really good run set.

It didn't make any difference last night. Run game still has a lot to be desired.

Don't care about I formation but getting back under center more would be a welcome change. We've basically abandoned that after doing it a decent amount early in the year.

Maybe put some big men in the backfield especially on short yardage.

We got a 240-pound running back but we don't get him going downhill enough. Hill isn't a game breaker but my eyes tell me he's our best option right now in terms of the whole package. Good pass catcher, solid in protection, and can actually move the pile forward a little bit. Jam has no ability to push the pile, but to me Hill shows that he can turn a 1-yard Jam run into a 3-yard gain. Maybe that's not much, but it's better than what we're getting.

Well it’s hard to fully blame the backs when I’m hearing stats like our avg first contact is -1 YPC.
Derrick Henry used to struggle when he’d get hit behind the LOS.
Our run blocking has simply collapsed.
Not to say Jam in particular isn’t far too tentative, but just as a good OL makes average backs look good, a bad OL makes an average back look awful.

Earlier in the season we ran Sanders at some offset HBack type of spot and he came around for a wam block. I would like to see more of that. Sanders can serve as the fullback.

Deboer talk about those extra yards the backs need to get just falling forward for a yard or two. They add up quick on 10 yards to go.

Hard to run getting hit behind the LOS. Simplify the blocking schemes get a hat on a hat.,

auburn always increases the payout to the players for 'impact plays' vs Bama. Thats why they play their brain out against us.

My son in law played offensive line at Oklahoma State and he said run blocking is easier. I think Bryant indicated pass blocking is easier. I really don't know, but being able to do both may be an issue. The run blocking is not good and the pass blocking at times is the same. The competition in the SEC is not that good so I am afraid the blocking will catch up with us some day. Proud of this team for the accomplishments so far. They do not look good at times.

What? You think we have been playing cream puffs?
That kid Stewart for South Carolina is no scrub. We got this guy R.Mason somebody coming up Saturday and he looks like a freight train. Missouri had some bookends. Georgia? I guess Georgia doesnt have any talent anymore; they all went to the Eagles.
Where do you get the idea we havent played any competition? Who outside of the NFL is playing tougher?

People are buying into bullshite from biased people trying to position their preferred conference for more CFP bids.
If you think the SEC is bad this year then you haven't been watching the games.
Reality is that there were probably a half dozen rosters each season in the late 2010s that would be all-time dominant playing against all these unlimited free agency and pay for play ravaged rosters for the 2020s.
So the ceiling for a roster in any given season now is lower but the quality of competition in the SEC has never been better to be quite honest.
