We're getting an OC and OL coach that were 5th in the country in sacks allowed with 0.8 per game. We were 120th, with 3.5 per game. That stat alone gets me hugely excited.

Yeah 3 great RBs plus don’t sleep on Hill getting some short yardage action.

Defense is loaded with talent but we just need to figure out the right fit. We have the following 5 stars:

Keon Keeley
Jeremiah Alexander
LT Overton
Yhonzae Pierre
Jihaad Campbell
Domani Jackson
Deontae Lawson
James Smith

Moore isn’t a 5 star but has been a stud for us and a leader.

Honestly we are stacked on defense with the question being who steps up in the secondary.

My guess is that the staff uses the spring portal window to address the remaining questions on the roster.

I'm concerned about the tackles and receivers.

Nick Saban hasn’t won a National Championship since 2020 for 2 reasons.

The WRs and the D-Line. There’s been a stud in both units every year since 2008. The last 3 seasons have seen those position groups drop off A LOT since the title days.

I don’t see a NFL round 1 stud at WR or D-Line on next years team either, unfortunately.

Was it Keith or Curtis that caught the td in the IB that was ruled out of bounds?

top notch ol coaching should be great now. but if they dont trim them down, they'll be just as slow as last season.

While I'm optimistic about the impact the new staff will make, things could be painful at first. A completely new offense for the players to learn, starting from scratch. I doubt DeBoer and Grubb will keep the old terminology, so the players will have a lot to pick up.

They had the #1 passing offense their first year at Washington and had the #5 passing offense at Fresno State their first year there. The players seem to have picked their offense up fast at those two places.

Of course I wanted Saban to coach forever but I will say I am excited about a new staff and seeing what they can do with our talent . I also feel you may see players play earlier under the new staff whereas you had to be a sure fire stud to get on the field previously . Think it will keep the roster happier

If you look at Penix it's easy to tell when he was working with DeBoer and when he wasn't.

@ Indiana with KDB running the offense in 2019
68% completion
8.7 yards/attempt
Rating 157

@ Indiana w/o KDB
55% completion
6.7 yards/attempt
Rating 121

You can find the same thing at Fresno. The QB regressed after DeBoer left.

Jameson Williams and John Metchie were on the team in 2021 and were both studs.

After the 2020 title, Bama has won 2 of 3 SEC titles, played in a national title game, and made another playoff. But everyone seems to act like Bama fell off a cliff. If Metchie and Jamo don't get hurt, Bama wins back to back titles.

As far as recruiting goes, all he really needs to do is win. Players always want to play for winners.

I am confident out offense will be much better next year. I'm keeping an open mind about QB. It was really great to see both Milroe and Simpson helping recruit. Problem is one or the other will probably be disappointed after spring practice.

On defense, I thought we improved over the previous year, stats be damned. But I think we still feel short of our talent level. If the staff can get them to play to their talent level we will be elite, and our recruiters will point that out. It won't matter that they are Saban's recruits, the narrative will be that the coaches got more out of them.

Saban made a statement to Mal Moore when he was hired.

quote:

“You think you’ve hired the best coach in America, don’t you?” Saban said.

Moore said that, yes, he thought he had.

Saban refuted the answer of his new boss. “No,” he said. “You didn’t hire the best coach. But you did hire the best recruiter.”

I think Saban stepped away because with the transfer portal and NIL, being a great recruiter means less and less. And I think Saban pushed for Kalen because he understood what will be important going forward will be being the best coach. Especially with a playoff system that will require you to win three or four games. TAMU, OSU, FSU, Miami are all showing that you won't be able to simply out talent the other teams. Everyone knows this isn't sustainable, so next year, there will be a couple other teams spending like crazy, and you won't see several of the ones who are blowing their money.
