They'll seize their opportunity...I wouldn't pretend to know enough about the scheme to describe how they'd adjust.

Atleast Lee and Harris can bond even more over their need to make calls and such that they'll atleast be doing it together.

Moses was somewhat forced into this position a season or so ago, and it was a mixed bag.

If we have backers filling gaps, getting off blocks and not whiffing in the open field - we 'll be better than last year!

Lee is the play caller. That’s a lot of trust from Saban. He moved up very quickly to number 2. I think honestly we will be ok.

We’re about to find out if Golding is the prodigy Saban thinks he is. He’s about to earn his paycheck or his walking papers, one or the other.

Gentlemen, I think the defense just went from solid with potential to be memorable to probably just a shade above last year. The backfield will be solid this year but we are starting freshmen right up the middle at Nose and both ILBs. That is not a blueprint for success. If anybody can make it work, Saban can but it’s hard to hide weakness right up the gut.

The best answer I have is pedal to the metal on offense. Just outscore everyone and for God’s sake, get Tua on the sidelines as early as possible and just let Macksiah continue to run the full playbook. No more of this letting off the gas, three runs and punt bullshite. Let Mack run the same offense Tua ran and keep trying to score. Hammer down, baws! Let’s score our way to a title.

Throw in RB's running uncovered for 30 yards on the wheel route three or four times, and you have exactly what Wilson and Moses did last year in game 1 vs Louisville. The two freshmen literally can not possibly play worse than moses and wilson did in game 1 last year.

Gmac said he could not imagine that Alabama would start 2 pure freshmen at linebacker. Gmac was asked if they ever had injuries like this when he played at Alabama. His answer was we lost Hightower and Corey Reamer took his place and we never lost a beat.

Well that isn't true, but we were still a very good defense.

I think the assertion is that our defense didn't suffer a severe drop-off after Hightower went down in the Arkansas game. Only TCU had a better defense than us that season.

Which is true, but was mostly due to the fact that we had our #1 ILB still there. If Ro had been hurt week 1 and then Hightower had gotten hurt against Arkansas......probably not the same story.

So what do we know about Lee and Harris? It sounds like they're both pretty intelligent to pick up the defense so quickly. Personality-wise we know Dylan was more of an introvert, so stepping up call plays was moving outside of his comfort zone. What are we getting from a personality perspective from Lee and Harris?

Who is the alpha dog on the defense that is going to chew someone's arse for not doing what they need to do?

Maybe Anfernee Jennings.

Its time for Ale Kaho to step up. Kid is gonna get plenty of playing time this year. Hopefully he's up to the task

On the brightside, next year, this unit will be one of the more seasoned units on the team

I don’t know man. We kept thinking we’d improve last year with a three year player starting and the defense was just as lost week13 as they were week 1. I have no idea what to expect with two freshmen. I am afraid we will see a lot of the same as last year to be honest.

shane lee has been at bama and in the playbook for nearly 9 months now. has had a meteoric rise to the #2 playcaller position on the defense. he's obviously shown the coaches he can translate his knowledge to action. as well as communicate with his teammates. all of this combined, maybe the learning curve wont be quite so steep for him. yes, it still exists, but maybe, just maybe, not as severe as it could've been.

We've never done it before - didn't do it for Moses and Holcombe, didn't do it for Reuben a few years ago against WVU.

This isn't true though. Suttles in his latest Athletic piece mentions that Pruitt went to Saban in 17 to simplify the defense because of inexperience and ijnuries... literally Moses and Holcombe, something Saban agreed to and Pruitt says was a large part in why they were better on defense in the playoffs.

So I would expect Saban to look back at that and simplify now that he knows it is the right call instead of stubbornly trying to run his defense. His comments about them being athletes and giving them the ability to make plays points to that as well.

That's interesting, I hadn't read that before. I'll have to go find the article. Does it mention what those simplifications were?

It's Suttles so of course the thing you and I would find most interesting, the changes, aren't discussed in any depth.

Well, Mack Wison was dedicated to running his mouth on twitter. Shane Lee is an intelligent student of the game, dedicated to studying the playbook, film, etc. Maybe that'll help make a difference.

We could possibly have multiple coaches signaling to the defense. 1 for the DL,1 for LB, and 1 for secondary. That way everyone is on the same page
