Whatever I still remember slapping fives with buddies when Shula lured the great 4-star transfer from Miami.

I also remember the fraternity house being jacked about signing fat arse Jimmy Barnes. "Guys Shula knows QBs. He offered him early. He got his guy".

Jeebus we were pathetic.

Yes, and I also remember how long it was between Bryant's multiple national titles and Saban's, with that lone Stallings title between them.

I think the moral of that story would be to make hay while the sun shines.

edit: If Freddie Kitchens had the talent around him that we have now, I'd bet on him to win.

I remember when we lost Tebow and signed McElroy and I saw his picture for the first time on Rivals and literally said "That's it, I'm fvckin done with Alabama football" to the entire room. It was totally based on his ginger picture. It would have been a bigger deal if I hadn't done that 47 times during 2005-2006. I was basically Cartman "SCREW YOU GUYS I'M GOING HOOOOOOME".

If you'd told me then he'd be the QB for an Alabama national title team I would have literally thrown you off the balcony and pissed on your body for an insane level of false hope and stupidity.

Who knew lowballing Bobby Bowden and hiring Mike Dubose over Frank Beamer would be disastrous in the long-term.

Nothin better than the "but he played for Bahr" days of incest in the Alabama athletic department.

Almost as bad as "but he talks like us".

Now we've got a backup that would start on every SEC team, lol.

Pennington, avalos, guillon, then Barnes just a year or two later...

What a shite show.

Just as bad.

Hopefully they have similar results, minus the SEC championship.

I think i had john david phillips, or add a first name... doesn't really matter. Followed by the zow/watts disaster. Good times

Yes! JD Phillips replaced Freddie to start the......1997 season? 1998? Then Zow took over at some point. Then the Tyler Watts show arrived.

Hard to describe how big a deal Tyler Watts and Brodie Croyle were as QB recruits. Especially in that era where recruiting wasn't mainstream.

After watching Watts play at Pelham, I thought he was going to absolutely crush at Bama.

:le sigh:

His mother was my elementary school guidance counselor. I remember asking her, just before the Christmas holidays, if he was excited to go to the Music City Bowl.

The questions of an 11-year-old boy...
