I am personally of the same mindset as you. I can't imagine wanting to keep working after I've saved enough to retire comfortably. But there are a ton of people out there, especially in certain professions, who just don't know anything else and would be totally lost if they walked away from what they've been involved with for 30-40 years.

Saban certainly seems to be one of those people. He's made crazy money, but would probably be unhappy if he retired, but I doubt he'll ever absolutely retire. He'll probably be an ESPN commentator and running a few businesses. Sitting at the lake watching the ducks copulate probably isn't in his future.

Depends if you love your job or not.
Most of us think of our job as just a tool to earn money for a living. Sagan provably loves what he does.

I can certainly see this about Saban. While we are not in the same stratosphere I am a retired Marine that also gets an additional 100% VA disability check but I still work full time mainly because I'm not old enough to sit around Hardee's all day with the other vets drinking coffee and eating ketchup packets.

Thank you for your service! I've seen that crew at Hardee's. LOL! Never wanted to join them either, so I'm going to be working for a while yet. I'm only in my mid 50's and have 1 kid at Bama and 1 look at super expensive private colleges like Georgetown.

That's the key, and I would add if you have autonomy. Many people at 65 or so (I am 69) want to quit working for other people, quit answering to bureaucrats, managers, etc, but Saban, though he works for Alabama, has complete autonomy in his job.

Coached for 25, retired at 47, been retired for 25 now and never looked back. At 72, I enjoy watching. They have changed the retirement age now, back then 25 years at any age.

Great, hope you enjoy it as much as I have. It has changed so much since I first started. I admire anyone that can do it now.

If BOB isn't leaving immediately then what's the game plan? If he stays will he work on issues that was glaring throughout the season and get better?

Have you done anything to draw a paycheck since you retired at 47?

Not as far as drawing a paycheck. Messed with things on ebay for a while. buying and selling. but nothing to tie me down. Made some good investments early in life. Pay cash for everything. Haven't had a loan for anything since I retired. No debts of any kind. I have been blessed.
