That is crazy. Can Tuscaloosa support all these businesses that are on the docket? Tiger Woods golf thing, Sports Illustrated Hotel/Entertainment, and now this? This makes sense for a much larger city

Tuscaloosa has over 100k people, not including Northport. The city is growing and has plans to bring in more jobs with good paying salaries

Northport doesn't meet the site selection requirements for an Olive Garden. It makes perfect sense to build a $350 million resort.

They are allegedly building these things all over the country. There is one being planned here in Columbia, SC as well. It seems like a big venture capital project. I'm a little skeptical they ever come to fruition. It will be neat if it happens though.

None of these things will ever happen. They are just press clipping PR stunts

Where would they even put them? I guess you can level a few of the blocks down town and build the golf thing and the Sports Illustrated thing

There are places to put them, it just makes no sense at all, just like this ghetto beach they are harping about. There are tangible things that COULD be done...like improving downtown Tuscaloosa, expanding the very charming downtown Northport, building a legit sporting facility, something like Albertville has. These wouldnt get the hype and praise though

They have been improving downtown Tuscaloosa since Nick Saban has arrived. It is a ton better now than it was in 2006 , where they hell can they expand downtown Northport to? lol You could use the old McFarland Mall space for a sports complex, but Stan Pate aint going for that

To a certain degree yes, there is the parking garage and the greenspace behind city hall. University and Greensboro could be spruced up some.

Whats so funny bro? I guess one cant have a discussion on the interwebs without trying to be smug and make someone look stupid.

Northport a long time ago should have laid out the red carpet for the equipment yard to move. I know the situation and know that Northport has only given the owners grief over the years. That would 1) improve the aesthetics of downtown tremendously and 2) added area for expansion and parking

I guess I am becoming the "old timer" that tells the kids they don't know how good they have it, but downtown has improved exponentially since I was a student from 1997-2002.

4th and 23rd, DePalma's, Innisfree, Catch 22 and Subs N You were about it for downtown at the turn of the century. No hotels, limited restaurants, and few bars. Now it appears to be thriving when I visit.

I'm sure improvements can still be made but let's not disregard the progress that has already happened.

When I come down for the games I park downtown and walk to the stadium. The city could really use some better lighting along the way. I am surprised more people don't take advantage of the downtown scene to be honest. For day games it's almost like a ghost town in the restaurants/bars. Maybe it's just the time I get there or something

I'm not trying to be smug, it just isn't room in downtown northport, i don't think. Unless downtown northport is a different area that i'm thinking. is downtown northport where city cafe is?

Well downtown Northport is literally where I live. It cant be expanded as it is now because more than half of the land is being taken up by an excavating company and a mostly inactive equipment yard next to the train tracks. It really is an inconvenient place for the owners of the businesses and property because its just difficult to get dump trucks and heavy equipment in and out of there. They actually do a tremendous service to the city by allowing people to park on their property free of charge for City Cafe and the adjoining shops.

These places would consider moving if cost of moving was outweighed by incentives to. Right now that isnt the case

So they're scaling up the Retreat's property pool into a whole-arse resort. Sure Northport is gonna love that...

Some of y’all are combining Northport and Tuscaloosa. Each has its own mayor and city council. One city council has done a great job with their 1% sales tax increase. The other council may be on drugs
