Where does this shite end?! As a History PhD I don’t even know what to do at this point....

So anyone who ever owned a slave, in a time period where it was a social norm, statue is coming down? Regardless of anything else?

The people that are randomly ripping down statues are just doing it because they love anarchy. They would find a reason to break shite. It’s amazing. I’ve never heard anyone defend slavery. Not one person, but people understand that we can’t just erase history. It happened.

Auschwitz didn’t get torn down. It’s a memorial for people to visit and educate themselves.

Yep. People who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it. Places like Auschwitz need to be cautionary tales for people who push hate too far.

There were some that did not believe me when I said they would not stop.

So we’re just going to magically forget about slavery and the Civil War because a rock is gone from the local public park?

You want to learn about history, then go to a civil war re-enactment. Or a civil war museum. Or watch a documentary.

Or, you know, just read a book.

After the statues and memorial buildings are all destroyed, will there then be protests (& riots) over the faces pictured on U.S. currency and renaming Washington D.C., state of Washington and city of Lincoln, Nebraska? Mobs of idiots are going to end up causing more of what they're supposedly protesting -- racism. Since they hate this country so much, maybe they should relocate to Costa Rica. I've heard that life is so much better there -- Eutopia!

You think books, with slave owners names in them, will be allowed?

Yes. History books aren't memorials honoring slavery. They are tools used to educate.

There are no memorials of Hitler in the U.S. (that I know of) but everyone learns about him in grade school.

I do worry about the wrong people's monuments being targeted.

Do you believe statues and memorials of Abraham Lincoln, U.S. Grant, George Washington and Francis Scott Key commemorate and honor slavery? Do you believe they promote racism?

A statue of Miguel Cervantes in San Francisco was defaced yesterday. He wrote Don Quixote and lived the life of a starving artist and was a slave himself for 5 years of his life. The only reason to vandalize a statue of him is *white dude from hundreds of years ago = bad".

No, I don't. I don't agree with the mob rule mentality of yanking them down in an emotional rage. There are better ways to address grievances.

Albert Pike's statue was yanked down this past weekend, and while I admired his Masonic work with the Scottish Rite, I didn't care for his ties to the KKK. The monument should've come down and been placed in the D.C. cathedral years ago.

But here we are. And it's unfortunate. But Albert Pike will be taught to new Freemasons for generations to come.

Probably won't be long before people say they need to go too.

You can still read Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn so no I highly doubt “racist” books are going anywhere.

Also textbooks exist. Last I check they’re still talking about the civil war.

I don’t see anyone burning books, do you?

If I can buy The Camp of the Saints on Amazon right now I’m sure you’ll still be able to read Gone With the Wind for the foreseeable future.

Can we please silence this person’s voice?

It puts lives at risk.
