As someone who was raised on Alabama basketball from birth, this loss just feels different than the usual disappointments. This season’s team had all the components of an all-time great one, especially at a program like ours. Instead, they’ll just be a footnote in history. A “Hey cool they won the SEC x2 and had a really good freshman” afterthought. This type of chance doesn’t come around often, and we’ve squandered so many half-chances through the years that this legitimate shot at something special felt different.

The thing that keeps you going as a fan is the hope that one day you’ll get to see something historic on the biggest stage. But after watching arguably our greatest ever squad rack up a record number of wins, individual accolades, and multiple conference titles, only to go out with a whimper in the S16, it’s become impossible to envision this program ever finding itself anywhere near a Final Four, let alone a national title.

Maybe it’s the sting of the moment, but this one cuts deeper than the typical derps we’re used to.

I honestly didn't think that I would be this bummed if we lost tonight. But I'm pretty fricking bummed out. I really thought we'd pull through. Hope is a bitch.

I’m right there with you. I live for two things in sports. Bama football and Bama basketball. I’m obsessed with both.

I feel just as cursed as this program. My birthday weekend just started and my actual bday is on 3/27...we went 3/27 from three.

Need real deal shooters. I thought we’d go 17 Nova and shoot ppl out of the arena all tourney...nah. Couldn’t sniff a make.

For sure. I would’ve been content with an Elite Eight. It would’ve certainly stung but at least we would’ve matched our best tournament run.

With Oats we will certainly have good teams in the future, but the NCAA tournament is such a crapshoot that it’s hard to feel optimistic. We just had a golden path in front of us for an epic tournament run/experience. First weekend in Bham. Second weekend just a few hours away. All high seeds knocked out. It doesn’t get any better than that.

My goal for Bama Basketball when Oats arrive was just make us relevant in March with a deep run once a decade. I guess we’re exceeding that goal but it’s hard not to feel letdown when you see the season we had and path we had before us.

What really hurts is that Bama completely wasted the path to the Final Four after the 2, 3 and 4 seeds in their region all were upset early on. With a deep team...it was just set up perfectly. Maybe they'll break through one day...but they'll never get an easier path to the Final Four than what was laid out in front of them tonight. And then to shoot like they were blindfolded and handcuffed... just wow.

You know I really thought we had it in the bag when we got up 9. That 12-0 run really was beyond inexcusable. Anyways I wasn't confident we win the title for sure as I thought UConn looked the best so far in the tourny plus they already kicked out arse. But I was really confident we make the final 4. To lose here really makes you feel like this team is cursed in the sport

The OU game should have told everyone Bama wasn't elite. Bama played in a weak arse conference this year.

Getting run off the court by a bad OU team should have tempered Bama fans expectations, but most of my brethren still believed the false hype.

It's a game. Someone wins, someone loses and I'm over it already on this fine sunny Saturday morning.

This one stings , but to me, the loss to providence is still the most hurtful loss in my time .

It hurts worse than the 2017 football NC game if that tells you my level of pain.

Yep. When we got up by nine I thought we had it. Then JQ started playing heroball and not using any clock or setting up the offense.

I don't know, maybe he was told to take the lane and speed the game up. Only Oats knows that.

As many stated very early on in the hoops thread, I knew this team would break my heart.

Miller had a historically bad shooting effort in the tournament going back decades. I guess NBA teams don't care that he laid a giant egg at the most critical time, but I'd hate to be entering the draft with that dreadful performance.

It hurts for sure but it’s also so hard to get your hopes up in basketball because the tournament is so unpredictable.

In football, the better team usually wins….especially in the post season. It’s easier to impose your will. College basketball isn’t like that.

I’m in this spot. I’m upset but not mad. Look at the teams who have made it? No one thought they would, no bracket is good.

We played well, but have a young team who can be unpredictable at times. It was a good run, but we will have more chances. Nate is a good coach.

It takes 6 wins to win the tournament.
You shoot poorly as we did yesterday, season's probably over.
All #1 seeds eliminated before the Elite 8.
Parity in college basketball is as strong as it's ever been.
This is why it's extremely important to at least win regular season conference titles and conference tournaments.
Just so damn hard to win 6 straight NCAA Tournament games against other good or great teams.

When Gurley had the rebound off of 2 missed FTs torn from him, which led to Clowney’s 4th foul, my natural state of Alabama basketball fandom knew at that moment, we were in trouble.

SEC Regular Season Champs
SEC Tournament Champs
We had the best player in the country (at least prior to him disappearing in the NCAA tourney).
#1 overall seed.
We got to play our first two NCAA tourney games practically at home.

And all we could accomplish was a Sweet 16 appearance.

We will never have that set of variables in our favor again.

And the 2, 3, and 4 from our side were already eliminated

And the bottom bracket was favorable as well.

Absolute bedshitting

Yea the way we lost contributes to the disappointment too. We leaned on our elite defense all year and it just disappeared in the last 12 minutes after we built up a 9 point lead. Not to mention the extreme talent, favorable bracket, etc.
