thats what i was asking. i seem recall he had a run last season where about half the defense chased him down. also seem to remember some talking heads saying he was more of a battering ram than a breakaway runner. but hey, he may be a 4.3 guy instead of a half a day guy. guess we'll find out.

I officiated a couple of his games in HS… he was a big back and actually played some TE so I never saw any speed from him but looking at the pics he has transformed himself . He is a tough dude

And then we've simply gotten bigger.” The improvement up front should also benefit a young Alabama linebacker group. Wommack praised linebackers coach Chuck Morrell for the offseason development of the room and said Alabama has emphasized getting its linebackers to play more aggressively downhill. “We wanted to make sure that we were more aggressive from the backing corps, guys getting downhill and being more aggressive at the line of scrimmage,” Wommack said. Meanwhile, Alabama continues to develop depth behind established defensive backs such as Bray Hubbard, Zabien Brown and Keon Sabb. Wommack specifically mentioned Drake Kirkpatrick, Zay Mincey, Ivan Taylor and Jireh Edwards as players developing behind the veterans. The challenge for those young players is straightforward: If they want snaps, they have to prove they're capable of replacing an established starter without Alabama suffering a significant drop-off. “You're asking me to put you on the field,” Wommack said. “That means I got to take Bray Hubbard off the field or Zabien Brown off the field.” Wommack also provided an encouraging update on defensive lineman Jeremiah Beaman, who has worked his way back from a knee injury. “Beaman's in a really good place right now,” Wommack said. “Proud of him.”

All this talk about size and 3-4 defense and jamming WRs sounds a lot like Nick Saban defense.
One thing that helped the defense last year was Ty's ability to go on long drives and keep our defense on the sidelines. He was money on 3rd downs, especially during the hot stretch. We may not have that same element this season. Nothing worse than going 3 and out, especially on the opening drive.

I got to wonder if Wommack and Nick Saban had some talks later in 2025 and early 2026 on what to do for next year and forward.
The way the sport has changed depth and clock wise really means the way Saban was doing it in the 2000s and early 2010s is probably the way to go. You gotta stop the run, run effectively on all downs, and pass well on 3rd and longs. You need to shorten the game and be very efficient on offense. It’s more of an NFL game than it ever has been, so I think the way Saban wanted to do it before everyone decided “this is what we want college football to be” is again the way to do it.

The NFL has been gradually moving back towards a rundadamnball league for a few years now after being a bunch of glorified air raid teams not that long ago. Defenses had gotten smaller to account for it and a handful of playcallers recognized that they could exploit it. QBs have also gotten worse as many college offenses have turned into one read systems that don't prepare anyone for an actual pro system.

There’s a reason our CB’s are all 6’2”+ except ZB who's still 6’0” and just incredible. I can’t wait to see 6’4” Dijon Lee and 6’4” Carmelo O’Neal jam and out-physical receivers at the line.

IMO, they’ve likely been “getting it”, but it takes time to change personnel. They were just trying to survive the first year, then they were able to more fully understand what they had vs what they needed, i.e., assess the SEC opposition. Finally, they had to acquire the desire solutions and let the bad fits depart.
We will likely know by midseason how well they’ve done. Everyone is excited but that’s usually the case for most. We just have to wait and see. Hopefully, minor or no injury impacts.

I’m not sure who this guy is but I suspect he’s like most content creators on YouTube and they all claim to have a finger on the pulse.
He’s not going out on a limb with that prediction and most on here probably know Russell will be the starter more than likely.
If Mack hasn’t separated himself by now as the clear Ace then Russell must be living up to the hype. I’m more concerned with the trenches in front of them.

Musso and Hannah were playing on one leg in that game against Nebraska. Would not have mattered, but might not have been as bad.

I met him at A-Day and he was a nice enough dude. He was there trying to market himself but from what I gathered he's literally just a passionate fan who knows x's and o's. I'd probably trust the so called "insiders" on this forum more than I would him.
