Alabama went to Oxford and Ole Miss jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead. Bama then reeled off 62 unanswered points and won 62-27.

I could see this game following a similar trajectory. Non stop scoring throughout. Mississippi has shown no defense at all.

The first year I watched football with my dad and actually got into it. A die hard Bama fan was born that year. I was a pre teen. Went to my first game the next year to see Bret Favre and Southern Mississippi beat us by a field goal in Stallings first year. 89 was a fun year until the barn game.

I remember having to listen to it on the radio and barely being able to hear any of it.

We heard we were down 21-0 and figured we were dead, pretty much heard nothing for maybe the next 30 min, then the next update heard we were up like 28-21 and were very confused.

The Ole Miss announcer said something to the effect of, "The dream has turned into a nightmare"

I was a funeral director/embalmer back then. Fresh out of school. I was at work listening to it in our bedroom (someone had to be there 24/7). I don't think it was on TV, was it? Had to leave to go pick up a deceased person after going down by 21 came back to us being up big. The deceased person was in no way related to the score.

Well, that’s what I would say too.

I remember that game well. I was sure Bama was done.

Gary Hollingsworth was a god. And our token “possession” receiver was Craig Sanderson.

I was 10. I had a soccer game that day. It was kinda far away from what I remember. We were packed up as a family inside of a minivan.

So we leave the soccer game. I was kissed because I played goalie and didn’t score a goal. We get to the car and we are playing like shite. It’s 21-0 so fast it made your head spin (and your dad was using swear words you never heard before).

Then the radio cuts off... (remember we are traveling and radio stations are cutting in and out).

Dad is not a happy camper. To say the least.

So we finally find Eli on the radio. The score is like 28-21. It seemed like it was about a 15 minute gap.

I have never seen my dad go from angry to happy so fast in my life.

In 1989, yes...in 1990, not so much...

The two games I remember more in '89 were beating Tennessee and Penn State in back-to-back weeks. The Tennessee game was a match of unbeatens and I think that was the Vols only loss that season. We beat Penn State in Happy Valley on the last play of the game; we were up 17-16 and Penn State was inside our 1-yard line and opted to kick the FG...Thomas Rayam broke through the line and blocked it...

2 TOTALLY different offenses too!! Coach Stallings' philosophy was "offense, don't screw it up! Let the defense win it!"

We also lost our top 3 skill guys in 3 consecutive weeks to start that season. Siran Stacy went down in the opener against Southern Miss and Favre, Prince Wimbley went down at UGA, and then we lost Craig Sanderson the following week at home against UF. It got so bad that we actually moved our all conference TE, Lamonde Russell to WR!!!

It was. I was there. Kind of a rainy, dreary day from what I remember.
