We also lost our top 3 skill guys in 3 consecutive weeks to start that season.

Hollingsworth was actually the backup entering the season, taking over after Jeff Dunn was hurt in the second game of the season against UK.

In the '89 season he was the backup to start. In '90 though, he was QB1. Jeff Dunn opted not to return after that knee injury.

I bet . Yea he was a well spoken, humble kind of guy . Homer made him look like Joe Namath in 89 though . Loved his offense. Very complicated but there was ALWAYS a back open in the flat for a check down

I didnt think that it was on tv either. I listened on the radio. That might be my favorite Bama offense of all time.

I definitely listened to it on the radio, but I was in the car. I don't remember if there was a TV broadcast.

I honestly don't think it was on tv. My grandfather was in the garage and I would keep running out to give him updates. If the game would have been on tv, he would have been watching

For what it's worth, the Wikipedia page for the 1989 season doesn't list any channel for television coverage of the game.

Went to my first game the next year to see Bret Favre and Southern Mississippi beat us by a field goal in Stallings first year.

That was my first game as a student. Bama lost the next two as well. Then I traded my Vandy student ticket to a girl for her Penn State ticket. (Back when students got tickets to every home game and you could bring guests). So I didn't get to see a win in person that season until November against LSU.

Still a fun season.

Try this: I'm a senior in college in my final semester. My roommate and best buddy is a huge Ole Miss fan. The year before is the infamous Brick Bowl that I attended in person, Ole Miss's first victory ever in Tuscaloosa. He's given me hell for 12 months, and after quarter #1, he's crowing like a rooster. As the game wears on, he gets quieter and quieter and just starts shaking his head and I'm not saying a word, just grinning from ear to ear. At the end of the game, I said "let that be a lesson to you. Don't frick with Alabama!" He didn't speak to me for days.

One of my favorite Bama games. Homer Smith was well before his time as an offensive coordinator. Bama literally lit up Ole Miss after going down by 21 quick. A true offensive explosion ??!

I was there. I graduated the previous May, but got a McJob in Tuscaloosa because I felt that I deserved a fifth football season. My buddies and I were sitting at about midfield surrounded by Ole Miss fans. After we went down 21-0, I moved down to about the 20 (the game wasn't close to being sold out). My favorite memory of that game was a 3 and 14 when we were still down 21. John Cassimus-of all people-caught a 21 yard pass for a first down and the flood gates opened. I remember that clearly. I don't remember what I did yesterday.
