Listening to the media and social media, you’d think Coach DeBoer has already announced the starting QB for next season? Did I miss this announcement?

Stop. It’s Milroe.

Ah. I see we got Ryan Williams back in the fold, so now we can go back to freaking out about Milroe being QB1.

I'm not worried about Milroe. If he keeps the job it's because he's grown as a QB and can execute the offense.

Milroe's either going to be a changed man in 2024 or it won't be him.

I'm betting on Milroe is a changed man tbh. But he better take to the change or he's legitimately in trouble. Any time you've got a new staff, it is more wide open at all the positions. Milroe isn't getting the benefit of the doubt, he will have to earn it.

If he can start throwing it around like Penix with pocket awareness and ability to work through progressions, Milroe will be an unstoppable force and the offense will average 42 or more points per game.

Yes but I'd argue he'll start spring practice in pole position. Every QB will have the opportunity to win the job IMO but I think Jalen's starts out with just a slight advantage over the others.

While the sentiment that it's an open competition and he's not getting "the benefit of the doubt" is mostly true with a new staff, it's also reasonable to point out that Milroe was lapping the field ahead of the majority of the guys who will be behind him last year.

I'm not saying he'll be the guy necessarily, but it takes a lot more mental gymnastics to make a case for one of the other guys imo, new system or otherwise.

But some of our fans have reacted pretty irrationally to us losing to Michigan where Milroe is concerned for whatever reason and don't wanna hear it.

I mean, he's got a year as a starting QB and a 12-2 record. He absolutely should be ahead of the others a couple of months from now.

ETA - He's actually 13-2 as a starter.

August may be a different story. That's up to him and his development.

I hope Milroe does improve and wins the job again. I just have doubts he can develop his field awareness and processing time to the level it will need to be in this offense.

My personal opinion is either Simpson or Lonergan win the job, but I ain't gonna bet on it.

Who was the Auburn QB several years ago who killed it throughout fall practice, and then when he actually got into the games he was horrible?

Same here. Not sure what the people that think he "lapped the field" were watching, but it wasn't reality.

The good news is I think the best guy will win the job. If that's Milroe, then fantastic. But, I have my doubts.

From his Pat McAfee show appearance, his comments on Milroe and his importance to the team moving forward, it sounded like he is QB1 until he's not.

I'd love to see the lights turn on for Milroe in Grubb's offense. He'd be lethal.

If not, having Mack, Lonergan, and Simpson waiting in the wings is not a bad option. In any case, I think Milroe gets the nod at the very least until fall camp and, more likely, into the season. He is a team leader. I expect no changes that might spark any internal fracturing before the May transfer deadline.

Record is not a QB stat. I know we love to attribute it to QB's, but it's reflective of overall talent and coaching more than anything

Deacon Hill at Iowa went 10-3 throwing for 1150 yards and a 48% completion rate.

He was sitting court-side with the AD at the basketball game last night. I think the assumed position of everyone in the Mal Moore Athletic Facility is Jalen Milroe is QB1.

The other qb's on the roster were struggling to complete a forward pass while Milroe was a Heisman candidate.

All I'm saying is I'm glad most of our fans aren't responsible for player evaluations.

Do you really believe that ? Really ?

Let me know the next time the starting QB at Alabama isn't in the top ten of the Heisman odds race.

This really is Hurts is 20-2 all over again. Even with Tua showing what the offense was really capable of after he finally forced Sabans hands.

The offense was operating on a totally different level with Tua - "but muh 20-2 record"

*edit - I do hope Jalen improves, and actually does become a Heisman QB, and is drafted No.1 in the NFL draft and goes on to be a HOF QB in the NFL. I just happen to think it not likely.

I think Milroe is a good kid, but I didn't really love the public callout of BoB, even if I hate BoB myself. I also get the impression Milroe assumes the job is his, and I'm not sure how he'll handle it if another qb starts taking over.

This is why I want him to win or lose the job in the spring. No more week of game 1 declaring a QB. Let's get it done, and let's get whoever it is as many reps as possible

Declare a winner whoever wants to transfer GTFO, and backfill best we can from the spring portal
