My main hope is it’s a 3-4 DC like Leonard. I absolutely hate the 4-3, it’s just not flexible enough in personnel for spreads

Damn dude. Are you saying we can't even discuss or suggest these things on a message board intended for.. discussion?

Maybe we can all trade recipes instead of talking football.

If it’s down to that I’d rather talk 2nd gen chargers, my lifelong passion.

As an analyst. He had hip surgery and the grind of coaching/recruiting is taking its toll.

TY. Hell of a coach. Not sure why he never worked out as an HC. Good for him and his family

No, the answer is to let our new head coach hire the DC he thinks he needs and for everyone yapping about this guy or that guy to get the frick over it. National coach of the year... and message board geniuses think they know better than him.

Its really amusing, isnt it. The pearl clutching has been insane. This isnt even like politics where you have a vote and can run for office. This is people freaking out about something they have ZERO control over.

People are acting like Glen Schumann and TRob are Sabanesque, Kirbyesque defensive wizards. Those same people conveniently forget that both Saban and Kirby defenses have both been torched by good offensive teams and they arent infallible. TRob and company's defense only had to stop Michigan driving the entire field to score a touchdown to beat Michigan and couldnt do it.

Minter, a guy with no Saban ties and much lower ranked recruiting than Bama, fielded a superior defense with a more effective scheme.

Washington, with far less talented players, held Texas to less points than TRob and Co in neutral site than Bama did playing at home.

Things arent just as simple as Saban defense good, everything else bad.

Hey, I'm not trying to break up your tiki torch march against free speech, but that "TRob and company D" gave up 20 points in regulation vs this years national champs.

DeBears defense, whoever was in charge, gave up almost twice as many points 34

I'm going to back out slowly now, please dont march to my home and burn it down and shoot my dog. Thanks, angry guys.

Tommy Rees out schemed Kirby, Muschamp, and Schumann.

Just saying.

OPTIONS

1-Nick didn't recommend TRob
2-TRob was leaving Bama regardless
3-Coach didn't want TRob
4-Ham sandwich

I gotta say, odd fronts (not necessarily 34 but just anything with 3 or 5 linemen) were a problem for Alabama in pass coverage this year. Teams repeatedly attacked outside backers having to check to covering inner receivers against some alignments. We did better in even fronts where the best pass rushers could pass rush and not get dragged away from the QB due to responsibilities on backs and inner slot guys in 3x1 alignments.

It will be interest to see who he picks. I would be nervous if he brought in the Washington staff cause to my untrained eye it looked more like Golding era defense. I know some people love TRob, and I love him as a recruiter, but I would definitely have some worries about calling the D at the beginning. I will give him some talent/injury grace, but the 5 years he spent at South Carolina he had one top 50 Defense. Considering you come to Bama to in part go to the NFL I hope we can find somebody with some fairly recent NFL experience who runs a modern scheme and he and CKD can built an elite coaching/recruiting staff around him.

Wouldn’t hate Dave Aranda since he’s on the hot seat. Not sure how he’d feel about even getting that call.
