Saw this on the Rant, thought I'd post it here (which is getting to be my favorite board now) too.

“I watch football on TV sometimes and there’s a lot of things I see,” Saban said unprompted by a question. “Self-indulgent behavior. Players bringing attention to themselves. A lack of discipline. When you don’t have respect for discipline.
“A lot of bad things happen. You get a lot of penalties. You get a lot of late hits. You get a lot of bad decisions. You don’t really play smart in critical situations. That’s never been the trademark of our team and that’s something we really want to reestablish with our players.”
Splash gas on the fire.
“We’ve always had a rule where the players don’t talk to the opposing team,” Saban said, his voice rising.
And then …
“I tell the players,” Saban said, “if you want to talk shite to the other team, join the god damn debate team.”
The live crowd in the Tuscaloosa restaurant cheered loudly.
“Excuse my language,” Saban quickly added. “I’m really sorry for using the lord’s name in vain. I just really get hot about what I see in sports that we promote in the media and every other way that really is not a good thing.”

Players will get attention for their performances on the team, they don't need to go into the camera and make a fool of themselves for it.

It’s sad really... poor guy has nothing meaningful in his life evidently. Probably gotta tie a steak around his neck just to get a dog to sniff his arse.

It's a game. As long as they aren't delaying anything, they aren't harming anyone.

They are harming themselves, their image and the image of the school they are representing.

I guess I'm "old school", I was always taught when I played to show my class and not my arse.

Yeah, because there is no way a running back doing a “look at me” show after a TD run could ever create animosity within the offensive line and blew the hole he ran through open.

Geez guys. Since when is this a debate?
He is right about acting that way about an opponent. It will help them in life to not be a douche in business or social matters.
I agree there is nothing wrong with having fun either . . . during exciting moments. Case in point:
To act like a dick when you are winning by 40 . . . kinda classless.

I totally agree, and I personally never had a use for trash-talking in my playing days.
Having said that, there's a lot of area between "showing your arse" and acting like a robot. I have no problem with players showing a bit of emotion and a bit of group celebrating. It's still a game, after all - just act like you've been there before.

You obviously don't have a clue what Saban was talking about.
I'll give you a hint - go watch the Florida Miami game last week.

You forgot to mention your playing days in this post.
