I was talking in regard to only mentioning 5 stars. Marcell Dareus was a 3 or 4 star coming out of HS depending on which service. Many other top DL that played for UA were not 5 stars.

Both of the guys I mentioned would fill a real need nicely. If you can think of another recruit that Bama can flip, I'm all ears.

I am sure there are many guys that can fill that need but in the end, we need guys that our staff feel is a great fit, can be coached for our system, and willing to put in the time.

If the grand sum of the masterful coup they’ve been claiming is a serial flipper and a kid that doesn’t want to play the position we’re recruiting him for, I can absolutely live with that

Even the goat never really was able to attract 5 star DT/DE talent every year, more the exception than the norm. Don't know if Roach is really one of the few coaches Debeor should have retained because his recruiting/evaluation/coaching of the position has been average at best.

Unless a surprise pops on the DL, 25 is a wash. Definitely need to hit 26 DL recruits hard.

Still want to keep Smith. He can be an all-SEC caliber safety. But Alabama seems to be pushing for Fegans now too.

And I am not as put off on Coleman as some. Definitely would like to see him flip back. Options getting limited at DL. Seems the portal will most likely be needed there.

BOL said neither he nor Smith were there earlier today.

Looks like Cunningham showed up late.

Oh, I didn’t see that. I only saw that he wasn’t going to the Auburn one.

Aubs said he stayed there with the coaches last night after everyone left the BBQ.

Just saw on the AU board Smith did not show up for their cookout.

the position part isnt true per BOL staff, they have insisted he is being recruited with the option to play which ever he prefers (not that it matters a ton at this point). Id love to have him and think he will be a very good player but if he dont wanna be here then enjoy your time over there.

Both sides have told smith he can play wherever he wants. He indicated to our staff that he preferred safety. I’m sure Hugh is pitching him being a two way player.

I can’t recall the last player we got out of Selma. It’s not a hotbed by any means, but when they do have an SEC caliber player they almost always end up elsewhere. Ben Obamanu, Jai Miller, Dakari Nelson. The big Bama money got out of Selma 20 years ago. There are obviously Bama fans there, but for a city between the two universities it’s much more 50/50 than the rest of the state.

I won’t be shocked if smith flips in the next day or two, but I think he’s also one that could change his mind again during football season. If Hugh is pitching him on coming in and playing with Coleman and Thompson and being some dynamic trio, he’s going to want to see someone that can get them the football. They don’t have that on campus and they don’t have that committed. The whole “why continue something there when you can build something here” pitch appeals to a lot of kids in July. Let’s see if it still holds water in November. I doubt it.

Keep in mind that this kid lives in Selmont. If Selma is Mogadishu, Selmont is Baghdad. It’s one of the most impoverished areas in the country and this kid probably grew up without a pot to piss in. I’m sure Auburn is doing all they can financially, because A he is a good player and B it’s good propaganda for the fambly to take one from Bama.

Exactly this. He goes to Southside High School. I’ve been inside Southside and walking in the place you couldn’t blame any kid who committed to the first place that rubs two 20s together. I’m sure it’s a tough place to get that kind of exposure too.

Auburn fans whole mindset if Smith flips is that they swept the states best players this year, Hugh is a recruiting God, nevermind the fact that Alabama hired a staff with virtually no ties to this state...Bama has a Top 2 class and they just can't comprehend how, lol

This is one of the most important years in recent memory for AU. They hired Freeze due to his recruiting ability and beating bama a couple years. His first year wasn't as expected but his recruiting has been pretty good. If he doesn't show that he can win this season (8-4 at the absolute worst) he will lose credibility as a coach and I believe a lot of the recruits they've landed recently will see he's not going to get there. At the same time they know if Deboer shows that Bama isn't stopping anytime soon they will fall back even further than they were before.

I really don't understand why they're so excited about locking down the top talent in the state when their class is still ranked behind ours.

In this day and age, I don't give a shite where recruits are from, I just want the best players possible.
