I have been in a lot of e-fights. Not sure how many I won, but I've hit the keyboard hard enough to bruise my fingertips..

Can I join the badass bar fight club? I used the space bar almost every time. Almost.

So far it sounds like bar fights are between our literal "fighting" men and women of the armed forces and country boys from Chilton and Dale counties looking for an old fashion dustup or hullabaloo. Due to my extensive viewership of Gangland I know to add 1% Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs. And of course a sprinkle of frat boy.

Seriously though my father and brother are both ex-military. I'm so getting a bar fight number from them next time we talk.

Me too but I’ve watched Road House more times than I’ve been in fights.

Damnit.

In my defense, the 3-4 that I've had the unfortunate experience with have been defending people who couldn't (or wouldn't) defend themselves either out of fear or incapacitation.

I hate seeing people being bullied and I act accordingly whenever I come across it.

It also didn't help that I have 2 younger brothers my father told me to always take up for.

That was a long time ago though.

Now I beat up little Korean bullies in the schoolyard.

Well just my opinion but I think a big problem today is we don’t let boys get into fights. It’s looked down on now and the zero tolerance policy hasn’t helped. Schools are more violent now than they ever were. What a lot of people don’t get is they’re are two lessons in every fight that both guys go through. One you learn to stand up for yourself whether you’re scared or not. Two you’re going to get hit in the head and the next time you fight you usually give it a long hard thought about is it really worth getting hit over whether I win or not. I really believe these are skills that boys need to develop from a social standpoint. But now if you’re in a fight you get suspended whether you’re defending yourself or not. Whether you started it or not and most boys won’t fight until they finally so enraged that they overreact and what would have been a simple fight turns into someone getting seriously injured or killed.

I now honestly believe that Bar Fighting Strategy should be incorporated into Ground Fighting Technique during Basic Training. I feel it is essential to the protection of this country.

Never been in a bar fight. Haven't been in a fight since I was a teenager. Seems pretty childish.

I agree. I've also never thrown a punch at someone outside of messing around with some boxing gloves in someone's basement.

While I am not zero tolerance for kids getting into a scuffle or two, you have a totally different perspective on what kids get out of fighting. Some kids learn the lessons from fights that you mention but many don't. Many kids fight for different pyschological and emotional reasons. One kid in my middle school fought all the time mainly because his father was abusive, he wasn't getting anything but an emotional release. He didn't care whether he won or lost, he just wanted to keep fighting.

I simply disagree with this. Outside of gun violence schools are safer/less violent than they have ever been. Hand fighting will not reduce gun play. Usually those kids are influenced by gang activity in their community.

I'm not discounting what you are saying but I think it is too much of a blanket statement. It is like when people say being bullied makes you tougher. It makes some kids tougher, it incapacitates others. And the biggest thing we don't do is figure out what issues the bully (if the behavior is from one kid) is dealing with.

Yeah mine was a generalization About the majority of kids who are normal functioning members of society without abuse or psychiatric issues but from experience with two boys one who struggles with social aspects he is paralyzed by the school’s policies. He is a target and always has been. He is viewed as the weak link. He fought back was put in out of school suspension twice in a three month period. Decided he would just take it from now on. Tells the teachers about the constant teasing and bullying. Teachers tell him to just leave it alone or I’m tired of hearing about it. He gets punched at a football game because he accidentally bumped a kid in front of him with his instrument (tuba). I use this as an opportunity to bring him to the school let him voice the incident to his principal. He still gets written up. Guess what that’s zero tolerance. He does not trust the school or it’s facukty. The boy goes to school everyday avoids as many students as he can to avoid the teasing when he can’t he just doesn’t say anything because it won’t matter. So going into this school year I’ve told him I’m not there to help you, the teachers and principals won’t listen to me after numerous meetings that I’ve requested so the new rule is hit him until he cries or a teacher pulls you off. Make it painful enough that he doesn’t want to do it again. This is a direct result of the school failing him. They don’t want to fix the problem just have it vanish like a fart in the wind. If they won’t allow kids to defend themselves then they damn better start protecting them.

Yeah, I can definitely see where you are coming from and sympathize with you and the boys situation.

When you have bad policy and inept administration/teachers kids fall through the cracks. While I think certain people need help when you are protecting the aggressors more than the victims you are doing it wrong.

I hate it for you and definitely understand why you feel the way you do.

Coming in late on this.

I've been in a fight at a bar, but we were all there for a show and I'm not sure how drunk the crowd was. Me, my friend, the other guy and his friend were all sober but it was in a bar so I'm gonna claim it.

The zero tolerance policy in schools is absurd, and as a kid, forced me into mouch more dangerous situations. Firstly, kids need to know how to stand up for themselves and have some experience with physical conflict because there is a decent chance they'll be in a confrontation at some point in their lives. This stuff has to happen when we're kids, before we can really hurt people.

Secondly, zero tolerance forced me to fight off campus. If a kid was fricking with me, I couldn't do anything because if I got suspended, my pops would beat the shite out of me, so I had to schedule fights behind a gas station near school but out of its controlled in environment. We were much more likely to get hurt, jumped ect. Extremely risky.

If schools would look at fights on a case by case basis, they'd be able to contain more of them in a safe environment that will probably break the fight up after 10 seconds any way.

I was fortunate enough to go to school before a lot of this zero tolerance nonsense was enacted. When we got into fights we just had to do bear crawls across the football field until we puked, we had to shake hands afterwards, and that was the end of it.

I'm not judging anything Fells, I also find that sentence hilarious. Did the owners of the gas station know you were running a middle/high school fight club behind their business?

The first rule of gas station fight club is.....

Lmao, judge away. I was a stupid kid.

We never had any issues with the owners. There was a bus stop there and lots of kids rode the city bus to school so I think everyone was used to a bunch of kids running around after school.
